NRA Dissolution Suit Development

A little glimmer of hope. Was really starting to get worried after the NRA credit card was shut down and then NRA Carry Guard. Maybe the NRA will survive after all. Fingers crossed.

Maybe the NRA will survive after all.
And, maybe it will survive being dissolved.
Being dissolved is potentially better than the current "death by a thousand cuts."

The fallout from dissolution is like to be vast an unexpected. NRA training & facilities are mandated in many jurisdictions (particularly NYS, not the Leticia cares) and dissolving the NRA eliminates that training & those facilities.

We are all agreed that WLP and his cadre have long outstayed their welcome, and gone from annoyance to detriment.

As much as I dislike WLP and the cat lady, no atty general should have the power to dissolve a non-criminal organization. Now, Goldman Sack (o' feces), JP Morgue, Chaste-Manhandling, Morgue-Stanlee, Wells-Fargo are all, IMO, should be scrutinized.

Yes, dissolving the NRA would be an interesting precedent.
I wonder what other controversial organizations or businesses that were organized under the auspices of the state or federal government or now accept state or federal money to serve the public might find themselves being treated similarly?

I don't get this approach. Do you really think Letitia James is going to care if people can't get proper firearms training after the NRA is dissolved? She doesn't care about nor represent NRA members.

Maybe it will make the papers and cause some backlash, but the NRA will be long gone. Perhaps another organization like FPC, GOA, 2nd Amendment Foundation can try to fill that void. But when all is said and done, I want more 2A supporting organizations not less.

First, the anti-gun successfully shut down NRA's credit card program, then NRA's Carry Guard program and now this. What happens when NYS goes after whatever gun-rights organization takes the lead?

You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater here.

She clearly does not care, that's obvious.
She does not care that no hunters will be able to get Hunter Training; that LEO will not get NRA training for certification, that ranges used and certified (and insured) by NRA will be left hanging in the wind.

The problem is that WLP and his cronies don't care, either.

It is then fascinating that members of the NRA Board are asking to join in the suit to dissolve the NRA. Which suggests that they see no other way to cut the rotten head off the organization, and hang the consequences.

Letitia wants the NRA bankrupt and dissolved for her own political ends (like a run at the Governor's mansion).

I happen to care about the future of the NRA. But, I also care about being part of an organization led by people as unsavory (and very likely corrupt) people like WLP, who has now become the Idi Amin of the NRA.

In the latest American Rifleman mag, WLP writes his usual letter, the president writes hers and the editor writes his. And no one mentions the legal problems,,,how are we to support them if they aren’t open and upfront with us?

I think it is akin to voting. You pick "the lesser of two evils" and hope for the best.

AND....are not at least some LEO training formats rooted back to...NRA rules a.k.a. safe handling and other etc. , if not the actual courses of fire ?

She WILL care if many LEO Dept's QUALIFICATIONS are quickly placed in... legal jeopardy. If my thinking on this is correct, I don't think it could be righted with a single wave of the magical wand or ''governors pen''

WLP = IA, that's a 1st in comparisons!! Bravo!!

You're talking about an Attorney General who has sued the NYPD. She sued one of her own police departments.

The police could do a mass walk-out in protest, Letitia James will feel nothing but pride. And her supporters will cheer her on.

Looking at this link, I thought the intent of a director joining in a suit against the NRA leadership is to potentially get the judge to clear out the existing leadership and leave the organization in existence. That said, I don't understand all the legal angles. This is all involving New York State rules for chartered organizations where the NRA is chartered.
That is the intent

The judge declined the request:

"Justice Joel M. Cohen rejected the NRA members’ request, stating that under state law they would require the participation of at least 5% of the group’s 5 million members to qualify for standing.

But the judge said he appreciates the perspective of NRA members and would consider other ways to include them as the case proceeds."
