A new machete such as a Marble's, Ontario or Cold Steel, will generally run you about $25 or less. It will also do a better job as the blade will be upsized so you can build velocity with it, and the configuration will likely be one that has been found to be efficient. The Case, which was well made and appears to be in great shape, was a compromise based upon space constraints and other considerations, and has historical value. I have that exact machete including the blade guard. He was in the Navy during WW-2 and kept it after being discharged. In my case due to family history I have mine put up and don't use it. With no family history I MIGHT be tempted to use it, but probably wouldn't.
There are newer, better options at reasonable costs that I'd use instead.

That blade guard alone is worth more than a good machete made today.
