I have been reloading pistol and rifle for a while now and wanted to try shotgun reloading. I have some questions I am hoping to get some help and direction on.
I am looking at 12 GA 2 3/4 load data for 1 1/8 oz target loads and one hull listed is “Winchester HS or compression formed plastic cases, fold crimp”.

so my first question, is the hull pictured a winchester HS hull suitable for this application? I am a little thrown off because it the hull ID section it says it would have a red basewad and the basewad is white / clear.

second question. If I am loading 1 1/8 shot loads does it matter the shot size? I have size 6 and 7.5 available and it seems 1 1/8oz of either shot with the listed charge and wad should be fine.

Thank you for the help.

That's an older AA hull, which uses the same load data as the modern AA-HS hull.

Shot size won't make any difference, use any size that works with your wad.

Shot size doesn't affect wad choice, either.

Oops. I am a long way from my ATA days and No 7 1/2 in the MEC but I seem to recall that it did not deliver quite 1 1/8 oz.

That is not the older compression formed AA. It says HS right on the base. Ignore the base wad color. Absolutely good with HS data with the caveat that some after market wads don't play well with the HS base wad.

1 1/8 of #6 will be lighter than 1 1/8 of 8 thrown by volume, but good enough for government work. Generally a "generic " 1 1/8 bushing is calibrated for 6. You can get bushings specific to max legal (ATA) weight of 7.5, 8, 9 if you are super particular. If you're shooting registered ATA, they are a must as charges may not exceed 1 1/8. Ignore the 2 posts above, as their information is not correct.
