6mm arc

I'm pretty fond of mine as well, I think it's about as well as you can do external ballistics wise in the confines of an AR-15 mag. I have also found the factory Hornady offerings to be pretty good, especially for the price, and I've run the 108gr ELD Match load in particular out to 1,250 yds next to my own hand loads.

Here's my 105gr hand load next to a 109gr Dasher for scale.

I plan on building a lighter weight 18" upper at some point to be a my all-arounder/hunting upper in the chambering, as my 21" Odin is a bit chunky to tote much.

I attempted two separate 6arc builds this year, both failed for parts Availability and money had to get used elsewhere. I believe I would really like the round.

I have been thinking about getting either a 6mm arc or a 6.5 grendel in a bolt action. Would be a little more economical of a target round than my 6.5 creedmoor. The heavy weight 6mm bullets seam to have been consistently on the shelfs locally while 6.5's have been scarce as hens teeth.

.136” bolt face depth Grendel bolt.

The ARC is a fantastic little cartridge. Certainly maximizes the range of an AR-15 using factory/SAAMI standardized brass and ammo and non-proprietary components. Not many folks want to commit to a WSSM AR-15, or extensive case forming of 7 Valkyrie (unrelated to 224 Valk).

In a bolt gun, it’s an option, but I’m not certain the work to get one built is worth the trouble, currently. But the increased pressure tolerance of a stickshift does open some doors for a reloader.

We will have to see what the market will bear but for me yes it’s worth it to have a bolt gun chambered in it!

Savage offers it as a factory chambering now. I’m hoping howa will chamber it in the excl light. If they do I would probably give it a try

I’m watching Howa if they offer it in their mini rifle I’ll look at it hard or if CZ does it I’d look at that as well

Wish I had a extra 527 cz around that would be perfect for the arc, I'd do a lighter barrel contour. I've always wanted to make a nice 6mm-222 for a do all type rifle, the arc would be great to.

I have a 6-223 AR barrel on order. I looked at the 6mm arc for that but it’s going to be a coyote rifle so I don’t want to be concerned about loosing the brass and I’m probably going to shoot mostly 70-75 grain bullets so I don’t need the shorter case to stay msg length. I have been holding on to a set of 6mm tcu dies for like 8 years wanting to build kind of a mini precision bolt action, but the arc will do everything better for that purpose and I’m not concerned about keeping track of my brass with a bolt gun.

In reality if I do a 6mm on the 222-223-223mag the 223 s the way to go for cheap brass, and a few more fps over the 222 I like so much.

I desperately wish someone would produce a true mini-length action with commensurate weight and bolt throw reductions. The CZ “mini” action is heavier than a short action 700, and the Howa matches it.

I drool over the idea of a 12” CF wrapped barrel in front of a lightweight mini length action in 6 ARC, especially with AW type mini-length mags, in a Manners Gen 2 Compact stock, with a SiCo Omega out front. I’d likely never hunt coyote or deer with any other rifle again.

Savage had the model 40 which was kind of a strange ugly duckling but I’m really surprised nobody has made a true mini bolt action for the 223 and X39 based cartridges with a receiver like 80% of the diameter of a 700

The lack of a good, properly sized mini action is mostly what's holding me back.

If I can use a Rem 700 SA and be at the same weight, why not use a cartridge that's sized to that action and take advantage of it?

That’s the circle in which I keep spinning... or at least using a more readily available bolt face, especially one which uses the same mass of powder to produce higher velocities. Pretty hard to find fault in a BRA or Dasher, using ridiculously stable Varget instead of relatively unstable Leverevolution.

But I do love the 6 Grendel variants, the ARC included.

Just throwing it out there, but The Legacy Sports rep that answered my inquiry email did confirm that there would be 6mm ARC Howa Minis coming in 2022. We'll see, but I'll probably wind up picking one up to try some of the Hornady bolt gun only data. Maybe by that time, Hodgdon will have introduced the Varget speed StaBall powder that rumor has them currently testing.

It's still early days for me with the 6mm ARC but so far I'm enjoying it. I put together a Frankenstein of a rifle with a FALKOR upper/lower receiver, Proof barrel, UBR GEN 2 stock, Rainier Arms M-LOK switch rail, Radian parts, Superlative Arms adjustable gas block, JP Rifles buffer, a Geissele trigger, etc., and it seems to shoot ok with Hornady Black 105gr stuff. I've found ASC magazines work best. I didn't like the FALKOR stuff so sold the matched upper/lower on Gunbroker recently and replaced them with a better POF set. I ordered and received a Magpul PRS stock but haven't got around to switching it out. I'm sure that it will be outstanding with the Berger 109gr LRHT bullets that I have.

I have three ARs set up as "precision" rifles and feel that it's a good set.
  • Bushmaster/Bergara in 5.56x45mm
  • POF/Proof in 6mm ARC
  • POF P308 in 7.62x51mm

Carbon Stalker mini in 6mm ARC? Yes please. I will have to send it to Ecco machine to get 3-4 inches whacked off the barrel though. Looking at Howa's specs, the Carbon Stalker mini comes in @ 4.10 lbs.... I'm thinking they meant 4lbs 10 oz, regardless, easily under 7lb with my Nomad Ti and a reasonably light scope. I'm ready, come to papa.
