Pistol Sight Pusher

I have been using the VISM rear sight tool and while cheaper than most, it still does the job.

Looks like a nice piece of gear to me. I've always used a brass punch and hammer, but I confess I ruined one gun doing that. Fortunately, it was a cheap Star BM. You have to remove the rear sight to get access to the cross pin that retains the firing pin. Poor design.

Go to a steel supplier, with a sketch of the above(Crosser's post) and ask for a short drop of 4".... 1/4" wall square tube, say 2" long. They'll probably give it to you if you show'm what you're wanting to make.

Anyway,drill/tap necessary holes. Get some 1/2" thick delrin and start making inserts.Don't even need to weld a base on,just put it into your vise.

Another option is a small C frame press. They come in dang handy reloading, swaging, and working on guns. Again, use delrin for blocks. Easy to cut and machine with wood working tools(router to mill with) and can be threaded for steel threaded inserts.

The kind of gun can make a difference. I've used a brass punch successfully on some S&W, but don't try it on a Springfield. I now have the Vism also and have used it on a couple glocks and my XD-40.

I also use the VISM tool pictured earlier. Got it off Amazon for something like $40 ish I believe. Before I was in the hammer and brass punch camp. And Sharpie to cover any brass transfer marks on black sights. Cheapest tools to do the job. Until I ran into a particular tight 1911 where I bent a brass punch. I still keep it on my bench to remind myself to use the tool. The VISM tool also doesn't leave marks on the slide or sight.

I was looking at the VISM NcStar...watched on youtube...seems it will get the job done

Same here. I’ve used it to remove, install or adjust sights on a couple of 1911’s, several Glocks, a S&W 4013, SIG 228, etc.

I wish I could’ve used it on my Marlin and Winchesters, it was that easy to use.

Stay safe.
