New FDE Beretta CX4

Saweet! Looks great.

What do you think of the new molding around the safety on the FDE version?

And what optic is on your black CX4?

I didn't even know Beretta came out with the FDE version until a month or two ago. If the FDE version would have been available when I got my Henry Ford CX4, I would have been mighty tempted.

I prefer the old style safety more. But, it does not effect me much. Unlike a handgun, I keep my rifles unchambered (with loaded mag) until I need them.

That optic is a Sig Romeo 8T. The only milspec Romeo optic made by Sig. 10 year battery life. I saw a torture test video of it and other optics on Youtube. I was impressed

My Beretta CX4 Storm had the worst trigger I've ever encountered on a gun. Most staple guns and even water guns were better! Despite that the gun worked fine, kind of wanted the Sierra Papa parts but economically it never made any sense for me personally. I'll note that while I have had trigger work done on several handguns over the years I've always kept my rifles stock (in part because generally the triggers were okay to begin with). I had an HK USC .45 carbine which also had a pretty poor trigger, not as bad as the Beretta but the HK cost twice as much!

As I’ve written around THR before, the standard issue CX4 trigger feel can be improved without going full Sierra Papa, for those that want to control the outflow from their wallet.

I can’t upload my old photos right now, but one point to clean up is the sear surface on the hammer, which is unlike any other gun I own. The other is to check the two trigger legs that go into the safety when the safety is in the Fire position.

My CX4 trigger was worse than a standard SKS trigger. Now, it’s much, much better and quite shootable considering the trigger and hammer design.

Well, the FDE doesn't photograph the same way the gun looks in person. My M9A3 is the same way.

It looks better in person

I hope so, it looks awful yaller there.
I wonder that these are not more popular among the PCC IDPA and USPSA crowd. Pistolish controls, pistol reload. A PCCer with an AR type loaded and primed is going great until he has to reload.

Part of the reason is that Glocks have 32 rd mags vs the 30 in 92 Beretta mags

When did you get your CX4?

I got my original CX4 around 2002 or so and the trigger was bad. It was so heavy I remember my trigger finger being worn out from shooting.

I was forced to sell the original , but replaced it on 2018. The new model has a far improved trigger compared to my first one, but I'm not a good judge of triggers.

Yea, I had one over a decade ago, and I sold it immediately after the 1st range trip due to the trigger.

Since then, I use to have one I bought in 2016. Trigger was better. The triggers on the 2 I have now are better than that 1st one as well.

It was in that same rough time frame. Even after putting a couple thousand rounds through it, each time I went to the range I'd think the safety was still one, so heavy was the trigger pull.

Well, I got my optic in today - a Mepro 21 reflex sight. This is actually my 8th Mepro I have owned over the years. I forgot how much I love this optic, since I have Sig Romeo 8T on my other CX4.

I like my Romeo 8T more than the Aimpoint T1 I used to have (the 8T is milspec, unlike most of the other Romeo optics). But, after getting back into the Mepro, I can say I like them better than any red dot.

My Mepro 21 has the triangle reticle. I laser bore sighted it at home, and then took it to the range this afternoon. All zeroed now. And, the new FDE CX4 performed beautifully.

Despite the extended charging handle, I decided to mount the Mepro further forward, as the triangle appears a little larger in the FOV that way.

I will say that there is some claim that this 3rd gen of CX4 has a better trigger. Dry firing it back to back with my black CX4 (2nd gen) - I really couldn't tell much difference. But actually shooting the FDE CX4 at the range? Yea, it is a little better. I can say that.

I zeroed it with Critical Defense 9mm ammo. By using that to zero, the POA/POI is about the same with WWB 115gr. On a CX4 I used to have years ago, I found that 124 gr Hydrashok and 124gr Gold Dot did not hit in the same place as the typical FMJ ammo I used.

Anyway - REALLY like the gun! I just needa get a sling for it eventually...

This was also the first time I ever used Mecgar mags in a CX4. I'd swear I read someone complaining about them in a CX4 many years ago. So, I just never got around to trying them. Today, I used a few 18 round mecgar mags, and they worked perfectly.

I am awaiting a FDE CX4 delivery and ordering a red dot for it. I am curious why you liked one optic up close and the other further away. I am not up to speed as to why either distance is chosen. Please enlighten me.

Had one, liked it, and it was scarcely any longer than a 10.5" SBR Colt.
Finally sold it to a buddy, do regret it on occasion. Don't recall the trigger being too bad.
Had a couple PCCs, and didn't need to keep them all.
