Picked this up for a song and the last one I was looking for.
A Remington Sportsman’48 3 shot auto(serial list it as 1949).
The poly choke still has all the settings visible with the factory paint(or whatever they used).

Even came with the original owners manuals.
I’ll sleep soundly tonight, or until duck season.

Very nice, the old girl looks to be in great shape.

Love the 16, too. My first two were inherited from my Grandfather; a well used Model 12 with the 28” Full choke/solid rib barrel and a Lefever Nitro Special SxS. This gun had pitting on the end of the 28” barrels so bad I had it cut down into a 20” coach gun.

I later added a 26” Browning BPS that I bought NIB from a THR member. :)

My Dad gave me his old Sportsman 58 in 12 gauge a few years ago, along with his favorite shotgun, a 12 ga 1100. He was a desert quail/chuckar hunting machine back in his heydays, and he was not as fastidious about maintaining his gun’s finish as the prior owner of your new ‘48. His old Remington’s would need quite a bit of rebluing work to look as nice as that one does. :)

Let us know how it shoots/patterns with the ploy-choke when you get a chance.

Stay safe.

What other 16's is it joining?
Springfield/Stevens SxS, Mossberg 190, Columbia single, Ithaca SxS and a Manton double flintlock.
The majority of the newer 16’s were the ones handed down from my father that, during my youth, had sold off.
Now replaced, the Remington was the last one.

I bought an Ithaca 37 in 16 gauge several years back. Well used. Smooth as (insert your own slippery reference here). I like it. Slam fire, Mod choke. Corncob foregrip. This is an early '50's gun. Got it pretty cheap on GB b/c it had a very minor dimple in the barrel about 6 inches from the muzzle. It works and shoots well.

Grayrock, you have a wonderful shotgun there. Just about the perfect weight for a pheasant gun. Keep the butstock tight so it doesn't crack.
Many years ago my old pheasant hunting partner gave me his Ithaca 16 before he passed, I loved that gun but when his grandson got big enough I passed it on to him along with many stories of the gun and his Granddad. Yes, I cried some while telling the stories but I knew that was where the gun should end up.

I have really no desire or need for a 16ga but recently somebody in very random fashion gave me a bunch of 16ga ammo and then I was offered a nice Win M 1200 in 16GA and a Ithaca 37 in 16ga. Got some gears turning a lil.....

Nice score though...
