New Remamrs 870 poor finish on stock.

The grain isn't filled. It doesn,t look that bad considering what has come out in the past. If it bothers you a couple coats of TruOil rubbed in should fill it and give the finsh some depth. I like the old Flor de le checkering.

If it was a new remarms wouldn't the box say rem arms. I wouldn't trust a thing made by remarms after all the bs they have done already.

Rem Arms LLC has some type of agreement with Vista Outdoors that allows them to use the Remington trademark and logos on their firearms. Similar to the way FN can use the Winchester trademark and logo on firearms even though Olin technically owns the brand.

Wood stock home defense and even Police guns never have a commercial level of finish.
Usually they're oil finished with open grain.

This holds the price down and largely eliminates a commercial level finish wearing in heavy use and looking ratty.

Let us know if the home invaders complain.

That was my impression of the Fieldmaster I looked at. Unfilled pores and thin oil finish.

For $461 that is not bad. Just needs a little love. You can spend almost that much on a used 870 magnum "police" gun that they were making before they started with the police magnums.
