And then there is always ...

Pretty much have had a sample of everything the major mfg. have to offer but I'm thinking of something different. Never had a H&K or an FN, other than my High Power.
Don't want anything striker fired, strictly hammer fired DA/SA.
What do my fellow forum members recommend. ;)
Grand Power with the rotating barrel!!! I got one and it’s good!!!

I carried that 2 tone BDM all thought college and my bachelors years
Not that one. But they are neat. I bought this one in 1991 IIRC. I was thinking of selling it recently but made the mistake of cleaning it up and taking it to the range to make sure everything worked.

I'd forgotten just how good that sucker felt.

I like the P mode, and the little tab on the mag that you can use switch modes!

great way to practice DA pull, but at the time, was just a fun thing to do

Interestingly I find the DA trigger pull on the BDM to be as nice and smooth and consistent as on my similar era Smith M-19 and Highway Patrolman and Colt Detective Special.

But my BDM is usually in the P mode except when playing at the range.

Good gun and they won’t be making anymore. My brother let me hold it for 10 years. And ask if I wanted to buy it for a couple hundred bucks… I said naw, getting a Glock… lol

Have you had a Beretta PX4? Those are interesting. They're hammer-fired, as you originally asked and have the neat rotating barrel lock-up that tends to reduce felt recoil. Not a bad trigger, but not as good as the three striker-fired ones I mentioned above. When you think about it, most guns have Browning's old tilting barrel arrangement. The Beretta is one of the few that varies from it, and I think that makes it really cool.

Some striker-fired pistols now have better triggers than some hammer-fired pistols. It's worth considering them. Here are a few that I know have good triggers:
  • Anything by Walther. They are among the only ones that have the guts to make a lighter pull and put the work in to give it a clean break, too. If you're thinking of Glock, this is NOTHING like it.
  • Anything by Sig Sauer. I have a P365 with a great trigger, and the trigger isn't hinged nor does it have the safety lever in it. The P230 is popular for a full size pistol. The cool thing about the striker Sigs is that it is the mechanism that is registered as the firearm, and it is a modular affair, so that you can buy different frames and barrels and slides and assemble other guns without going through the FFL rigamarole.
  • S&W M&P 2.0. Has the hinged trigger, but I don't notice it and the break is pretty clean. There are simple kits that make it VERY light and crisp.

Have you ever had a CZ-82? Those are pretty neat. 9 mm Makarov, compact, blow-back. Hand-filling 1.5-stack.

A couple more ideas:
  • Training
  • Join a steel challenge league
  • Send something you’ve already got to the gunsmith and have it made better
  • Tactical pants! 5.11
  • A fun new holster (I really like the Sticky pocket holster)

If you are going polymer, go HK or Beretta Px4 Compact or Fullsize. FN's lack popularity, support, and really aren't anything special IMHO. I own a CZ P07, and it's not as nice, well refined, or proven as HKs..

The P30L is one of my favorites and I'd take it over the P07 or P09 without a second thought. If it's good enough for John Wick, it's good enough for me (joking). I'd opt for the P30L over the P30. The P30L has the same grip as the P30, but has a slightly longer slide. USP Expert and USP Elite are next on my to buy list. FYI: HK P30's have come down in price and can be found in the $550-$650 range online which is a steal.

My Beretta Px4 is a joy to shoot as well. There is plenty of support and parts availability from Beretta and the aftermarket. The trigger isn't bad to begin with, but can be greatly improved with little effort.

I'll take the SAO trigger of a DA/SA pistol over any striker-fired pistol. :p

There is just more room for improvement with DA/SA triggers vs striker fired. One can also have a nice short and light SAO trigger on their home defense or carry gun without having the extra risk of a negligent discharge because of the first DA pull.

I love my striker-fired pistols too, but I like my hammer fired ones better.:)

Have you TRIED a good striker-fired pistol? (Sig, Walther)

I own a lot of guns including some striker-fired with aftermarket competition triggers in them. One of my last handgun purchases was a Walther Q4SF which is one of Walther's top of the line steel frame striker fired pistols. I also own several CZs including the Shadow 2 and several Beretta including their 92x Performance which is their top of the line pistol... No, I don't own or have much experience with Sig striker-fired pistols. I never been interested in the P320 (I like the Beretta APX much better), and don't have a lot of experience with the P365 although I want one.

The SAO triggers are typically better or can be improved to be better than the triggers on my striker-fired handguns. With that said, I like them all and can shoot them all well. I carry striker-fired handguns the most.

Ah, OK. That’s entirely different than being narrow minded.

I have a P365 and like it. It’s surprisingly accurate for how small it is. Very easy to carry. The trigger’s great, too. (Won’t compare with a SAO trigger, but it doesn’t have to)

I have to admit that I recently bought a Springfield XD-45 Tactical for my full size 45, and while I do like it, I kind of wish I’d gotten the PX4 in 45 I was also considering. I think I’m going to look into improving it. I’ll probably never carry the thing, so it ought to have a good trigger.
