What did you shoot today?

Went to the range this morning, been concentrating on shooting “both eyes open” and point-shoot with my Glock 19 & 34 …

I struck GOLD!

I brought 3 mags for each but picked up 3/4 of a coffee can of mostly once fired brass, so at least for a reloaded, it’s as good as gold, every time I reached for a piece of brass I saw two more pieces!

I spent so much time picking up brass I didn’t have the time to practice with my AR

Here it is mid-September and the Weatherby Vanguard in 257 Weatherby and the Mosin-Nagant 91/30 in 7.62x54R haven't been out since May. Took care of that nagging problem today at the club. Put four different handloads through the Mosin and three through the Weatherby just to get some groups, verify zeroes and practice a bit. The Mosin will be in the deer rifle rotation again this year and was the only one I hadn't checked zero on yet. Perhaps this fall a deer will present itself on a day when I have it with me. No deer season plans for the Weatherby unless I plan on shots of 200 yards or more. Shot the Weatherby at both 100 & 200 yards. I love how flat shooting those things are. . Only had one called flier at 200 yds. when I knew I was wiggling those crosshairs as the sear broke, (lack of concentration).. . Then I wound up in one of the small bays on the pistol range. . Just right for one guy shooting a handgun. Berms on 3 sides. Pick your distance for offhand practice. Plus, I can walk down and change targets whenever I want 'cause nobody else is in there. Put 100 rounds of 9mm through the Glock 19 ventilating numerous paper plates. Nice weather, no wind, and a good time.

Took the wife out to the range. She had not shot our Zev AR yet. I put a scope on it and she's not got a lot of experience with those either. She's mostly a handgun shooter. Odd thing is she is right handed, shoots pistols right handed, but shoots rifles left handed. Just looks so weird to me. Anyway, finally got her looking through the scope right and she sent 30 rounds of .223 down range at 50 yards. I was really surprised how well she did. I should have taken a picture. Chewed a 2" piece of the paper target away around the bullseye. No fliers. Girl can shoot!

Had the granddaughter up for the weekend. Hard to believe she is now 18 and doing her college. She came up from Columbus to Cleveland Ohio for a music festival. Yesterday morning I asked her if she wanted to go to the range and she was all over it. I started her on a Ruger 2245, then we went to grandma's Walther PPK .380 and after moving up she enjoyed shooting one of my carry guns a 3" Kimber .45 ACP. She did quite well. Same granddaughter who loved getting on the back of my bike and going to bike nights with me. She showed good potential with what we fired, no flinch or fear of recoil so I was pleased.

Wonder where the Kimber will end up?

Got to the range today for a Steel Challenge match and wanted to shoot my Black Mamba. Turned on my dot and nothing. I even replaced the batteries before leaving home. The one time I don't take my full bag with replacement batteries and this happens.

I was going to just hang around with my squad and do the board or timer for everyone. They one of the guys asked if I'd like to shoot his backup gun. Big smile!

It was an older Ruger Mark III with a huge dot on it. Remember back when the dot cover was as big as a tin can? It needed a new battery but I managed to finish the match with it. Did pretty good even though I wasn't shooting my gun. Went for accuracy instead of speed.

I really don't know. While my daughter's husband, that granddaughter's dad is a shooter my son's boy, grandson not so much he just turned 18. When I am gone my wife knows how to distribute the guns much as I know how to distribute her jewelry. The kids and grandkids pretty much know who gets what. I figure it precludes any arguments when I am in a box.

This is the Compact sub-variation in DA/SA.

I shot a couple hundred rounds of 45 in single stack at the USPSA Oregon Open in Medford. Had a great time in the cooler weather after having 110+ weather at home a couple of weeks ago.

500+ rounds through the MP5, MP5K and a half dozen assorted 9mm Glocks.

After DesertFox's post , a measly 35 rounds of 45acp through my Kimber Rapide.......

I know there are no holes in the target on the right.
Some say I'm as old as dirt. Which is not exactly true. But. I did get old and have to give up the big guns some years ago. The Remington is pushing 50 years old. The scope on the Remington is somewhere around 30 years old. The Remington is ready, willing and able to go another 50. The scope, not so much. Fogged up and at least 1foot off at 75 yards. The Remington has set in the safe for at least the past 10 years. Today I just wanted to shoot it. Hit the target or not I just really didn't care. Me and that gun spent a lot of good years together. A lot of good memories.
I'm going to leave it to my grandson. Hopefully he can build some good memories and pass it on.
But, Today was a good day at the range.

Shot my 10/22 with a Feddersen bull barrel.

I qualified on my trusty Glock 19 Gen 5 today during my agency's quarterly qualification day. I carry this pistol on and off duty and it stays by my bedside at night. I have ultimate faith in it. Otherwise it's just a Glock.

FN International Medalist at 25, first mag was low and to the left, adjusted trigger finger and gripped the gun more positively and the results were decent.

My "shooting" today was a laser training pistol and a laser training insert in my CZ P01 shooting at laser targets. I went to the range a few days ago to shoot my new P365, an old SIG P250 I haven't shot in years, my PCR and my P229. I bought the laser training gear a few weeks ago so I can get a lot more practice when I can't actually get to the range.

I will likely shoot the laser training pistol again today (it is a "snub revolver" that of course doesn't have a revolving cylinder). I'll probably use the laser insert in my SIG P290 today to practice with a more limited sight radius.

For actual shooting, I have a 6pm appointment at a local range. Now that a "new" range, they opened 2 years ago but I only just found out about them, takes online appointments I can see myself doing a lot more shooting again. Especially now that I really can usually only find the time on the weekends, it was discouraging to bring everything to the range, only to find a 1 or 2 hour wait (if I'm lucky). Now, I make an online appointment, show up 5min earlier to check in, and I'm good to go. I plan to bring my new Glock 22 I picked up yesterday, my P365 again since I'm still getting to know it, and my CZ PCR. I'll probably bring a fourth, not sure which though. My Kel Tec Pf9 may come. Now that MD concealed carry is possible, I may have more use for it, so I should shoot it some to see if it can be reliable enough (I've had some issues, but in the 10 years I've owned it, I don't think I've put a full 200 rounds through it yet, so maybe it needs some break in time, or I may need more familiarization with it). Though, I've never liked the Pf9 and I'm probably selling it, so maybe something else (my S&W 1911Sc, my Officer sized RIA, my S&W M&P40c, my LCP, my Colt King Cobra 3", my Taurus 856UL, or my SIG P229 in .40).

shot my Ruger American ranch in 5.56, and zeroed the Leupold 2.5x scope on my Winchester compact .357

Went trap shooting today, 1st time in like 30+ years, what a great day it was. Hit 33 of 50, with my old Remington 1100 trap model, 30" full choke barrel. I did better than I thought I would, and I had a great time.
