Because I want one!

They are currently only made with a 6 or 8 inch barrel.

I read at the Colt forum people suggested it might be a 4.2 inch for export, especially to Canada. But Canada banned all handguns from changing hands.

I doubt they'd make a 5 inch, because it's so close to 6.

Honestly I'd probably get one from 3 to 4.5 inches.

Think they'll make a shorter barrel Anaconda?

Five inch is a good length in a revolver. The little additional length improves accuracy and reduces recoil.

It is all up to Colt whether they will make a four or five inch tube.

Fingers crossed. I'd buy a 3" 4" or 5". 5" is my favorite barrel length for any handgun, especially for revolvers. Got the 6" and the 8" Anacondas. And 4" and 6" Pythons. Still waiting for a new 8" Python, and still looking for a decent price on a 3".

I passed on the only new Anaconda encountered in the wild (I had the cash on hand) solely because I just didn't want another six-inch barreled revolver. I gave up my six-inch 629 always thinking I'd get a four-incher, never happened. If one of the new Colt's popped up, even with the extra quarter-inch, I'd jump on it. 'Course, that'd mean I'd have to get back in the 44. Mag/Special game, but oh well...

.45 Colt, I dunno -- just seems like a round for an SA in an 1873 version...

I've tried to convince myself I'd like the 6 inch but cant do it.

I'm ready to buy a new Anaconda but needs to be closer to 4 inches.

.45 Colt? Good for a hunter or someone already loading the cartridge.

I already load .44 Russian.

My caliber choice after .44 mag would be .45 acp. I'd buy it.

If they made an 8-round .357 version that would be extremely tempting, too!

45 Colt has too small rims for an extractor that works on the rim. It needs to be ejected by the rod inside the case. The cases will slip under the extractor star and jam the action. Is that a problem hunting? Probably not. Nevertheless, the simplest fix is to use moon-clips. We know they've worked for 45 ACP for over a hundred years, and they will certainly work for 45 Colt if a revolver with a swing-out cylinder were to be chambered for it.

I think Colt is building the Python and Anaconda primarily as presentation and 'range' guns, but there are people who would carry a larger revolver even in these times, not just the little Cobras and mini-super-9's. It doesn't appear that Colt is building the larger framed revolvers with the features these users would want, but they are building them more for nostalgia, to bring back what they discarded in a previous age.

Ahhh . . . When they brought out the New Service (a modern double action revolver) in 1898, Colt modified the .45 Colt cartridge by making the rims wider. The early "new" .45 Colt cases could be loaded in the old SAA, but only every other chamber, snice the rims would overlap. Colt modified the cartridge again so that modern .45 Colt cases can be used in either single or double action revolvers.

I frequently carry a Colt New Service revolver in .45 Colt, and I assure you there is no problem with rims slipping under the extractor star.

My money is on a 4.2 inch barrel. This is a trend with COLT, RUGER and S&W to meet Canadian gun laws. Now that Canada is doing away with gun ownership apparently, the trend will continue in case a longer than 4 inch law comes to the U.S.
