I hold in my hand

In his boredom one day, my dad decided to make a percussion pistol. He was a maintenance man at the local foundary which makes manifolds for Ford vehicles. He made this thing completely from scratch, including carving the stock. It was smooth bore, but he did bore the barrel out himself out to .45 diameter. He would actually carry it on the farm on occaision, loaded with bird shot for snakes and the like. He called it the Riddle Model 1 . Unfortunately, he passed away before he could desing the Model 2.

if you are still toiling away at this, might I make a request.

You already mentioned .40S&W. Why not lenthen things a bit and chamber it for 10mm. You gas operated system will handle it without a problem.

I think we may have the next JMB on our hands. :)

Good Luck

things are comeing along alright. slow, but I am making progress. the truth is that I would like to make one in 9 mm, 50 ae, 10 mm, 357 sig. and a bunch of other calibers but I don't have the time or money. the reason I am doing it in 9 mm is because the only cheap barrels I can get my hands on are surplus uzi barrels. and they only come in 41 AE and 9mm.

How far has it come? Does the bolt/gas system/that other stuff work yet? Do you have any pics of the thing? Hopefully it will work out, and you'll finish it.

I have the barrel shroud/barrel nut assembly done, but not the gas block. I had a large portion of the gas block done but then started reworking the CAD drawings and realized I had a couple of errors, so I scrapped a few hours of work, darn it. the bolt is cut and to a large extent is looking good and fits nicely in the bolt rails that I made with it. the big 'problem' right now (if you want to call it that) is that I just recently got married, am expect my first son, working 2 jobs and taking 18 credits in school. so finding time to work on my assorted projects and hobbies is a challenge. but I appreciate the ongoing interest
