The training center is in Grove City. They are a Law Enforcement training Center that has started doing CCW also. Jim Meade also teaches LEO to be firearms instructors. They have a staff lawyer lecture on laws and what is a justified use of a weapon etc. They have an indoor range right their where the class work is done. They also offer an advanced gun fighting class after you take the basic CCW if you want to take it. Was 8 hours for $100 when I took it the advanced class. Covers multiple targets, low light conditions, and moveing and shooting while not shooting the targets marked as innocent bystanders. While talking with him one day i found he has been in several gunfights from traffic stops. Routine stop, he has a gun pulled on him and the next thing he knew he was in the middle of a fight for his life. So he has been shot at and knows what that is like. I think he was a full time Columbus Cop before he started this business about 18 years ago. He also is a reserve officer on a Suburb Dept. now. He seems to really enjoy his teaching the CCW class a lot.

I'll withhold the fella's name and phone number until I ask if he wants it plastered all over the internet. East of Zanesville CCW classes are being offered once a month, at present, for a total of $25.00 per person. The instructor is a Ohio CCW certified instructor, NRA certified instructor, and Ohio State Hunter Safety instructor. He decided to give classes when he saw the exorbitant prices charged by "carpetbaggers" ( as much as $400.00 ) who saw a fat cow to milk when Ohio passed it's CCW law last year. Class size has been limited to 10 -12 persons. I'll post info later after I clear it with him.

All I would add is call the place where the course is taught. Inquire about the type of classwork, shooting, weapons used and who will be instructing. As a retired LEO, I along with another retired officer took a course as required by law. For us, it was a joke. Not that the instructor was not qualified, but the two hour shooting course was not practical. I talked to an employee of a local gun store who took the course at a different location. His sounded much better. The instructors were LEO and the students used a training video (simular to the type used in police academy training) that put you in specific criminal situation, i.e., shoot-don't shoot. More realistic compared to putting holes in paper. In short, shop around. Not all course/training facilities are equal. Oh, one final thing you may be interested in knowing. It only took two days to receive the CCW ID card from the Franklin Co. Sheriff. That's FAST! It's also an additional $45 fee.

I've heard good things about that class as well.

I took mine at New Albany Shooting Range and was pleased. They kept the classroom part fairly interesting and the second day was lots of range time.
Two instructors so the was a good pupil/teacher ratio.

Any word on that instructor in Zanesville? I would be very interested. So would a few of my friends.

I'll second New Albany. The instructors did propogate some gun myths, but the training is there that you need to pass the CCW requirements.

i was a member of New Albany for many years and attended many classes there, but left the state the month after they passed the CCW law in ohio last year, so I didn't take the CCW class specifically. They're a great bunch to work with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, especially to inexperienced shooters. They have a great facility and are very professional. They are a bit pricey, but everything in new albany is pricey.
