once i got a few H&K USP's, Sigs just feel loose. you can hear the slide rattle when you fire it. it just seems like the tolerances aren't as small. there's no doubt about how well they shoot but they are starting to feel cheap compared to my USPs.

anyone with similar experiences?

No, in my experience SIGs are just as tight in their tolerances as HKs. There is no difference whatsoever.

Did you notice a significant difference in reliability or accuracy?

I'm thinking the USP fan just doesn't like a rattley pistol or he is looking for an argument.

neither...

i love sigs and always have. my sig is just as accurate as my h&k's. but when i first got my sig i thought it was one of the most well-built guns i had used....then my H&K's came along and subconscously i feel like they are not as well built as i once did. just an observation... my next gun will probably be another sig. but my last 3 were H&K's :)

As long as it works, I wouldn't worry about the rattle. And when I fire my hand guns I normally hear "BOOM!" not "rattle rattle" ;)

If all you hear is a rattle when you pull the trigger, then see the "Jennings hate" thread :)

My Sigs have varying degrees of "play" in the slide, but the ONLY reliable Colt I ever had (don't flame me--just my experience) rattled like a screen door coming off the hinges.

My P239 has it the worst. Without a magazine, you can rattle it audibly, and there's both vertical and horizontal play in the slide, BUT it's more accurate than any other pistol in its size that I've fired, and I've fired over 3000 rounds through it without a malfunction. So, yeah, it's a bit unsettling, but a) it functions and b) it's reliable.

For the record, my P225, Kahr MK9 and even my Kimber have *some* play, but if they didn't, I'd worry about reliability. Think of clearance and fault-tolerance. When you get a vise-tight slide like on some of the ~$3000 1911s, lord help you if any dust or sediment gets in there, or the gun'll lock up real quick.

I have 3 Sig P226 in 9mm and 2 HK USP (one 9mm and one 45acp), and I have to tell you that HK is DEFINITELY tighter as far as barrel lock up and slide/frame matching, not by much, but there is a tiny difference, BUT there is no appreciable accuracy difference. All of them are excellent accurate and reliable shooters. You can't go wrong with either, they're all German guns. :D

How can a USP with the small rails not rattle when you shake it? Every USP that I've ever handled had a losse slide to frame fit but they were accurate and reliable. Some SIGs rattle and others don't but they're accurate and reliable. Who cares about rattle if they work?

I have to say I had the opportunity to shoot a USP Elite in .45 acp.
The pistol was tight, there was no rattle and it, frankly and honestly, it was the very most accurate .45 acp handgun I have ever fired.

I would like to own one, but cannot justify the money unless I sell a few safe queens and I like all my safe queens.

The H&K USP40 I owned wasnt very reliable!!!!!Hard to believe, but I had numerous failures to return to battery!so based on this I sold pistol for 500 bucks and put the money towards another colt!!!!I have to say though i never have had any trouble out of my P7M8 though!!!!!!!

Hk's are very well built guns. However, all my Sig's are very tight and 100% reliable. You have to line up the slide to the frame exactly to thread them during reassembly. Only my P220 has any "play" whatsoever. The slide moves a fraction of an inch when you press on it - but doesn't rattle.
