What's this cut in the slide near the slide release for? I've noticed its on some Hi-Powers, but not on others.

When you field strip the pistol, you retract the slide, and push the safety up into the second notch, then pull out the slide stop, etc.

Also, probably a better question for the autoloader forum.

It's for disassembly. That is a great photo. Did you take that yourself? It appears to be a bitmap file.

It's not my picture, just one I found of the net to illustrate my point. I was addressing the horizontal cut circled in red in this photo- I understand the notch circled in blue is the disassembly notch. Notice that the blued Hi-Power below lacks that extra cut.

Moved to autoloaders.

It has the appearance of being a ''relief'' milling - for slide stop clearance when cycling. My BHP Practical tho does not have this - neither did my very old early BHP. No clearance required.

I don't know if underside of slide stop has more material and so requires a clearance allowance.

Steve Camp! Calling Steve Camp! :)

Hello. The slides on the 40-caliber Hi Powers is wider than on the 9mm. The slide has a cut on it to clear the slide stop, which has also been flattened on the front top over the circular area.

Best.

My lord, that is the most beautiful Hi power I have ever seen. Is that all stainless, nickel, or hard chrome? Custom, or factory? If they had one like that at the gun store, I wouldn't flinch a bit before trembling as I'm paying for it as soon as I can get my wallet out. I'm definately going to get one of those!

Neat, simple, effective, super reliable, gorgeous. The others envy.

As others pointed out, that is a .40 S&W slide. Now, as a warning to others, don't buy a .40 BHP used, where some Bozo (apologies to the clown) put on an aftermarket 9mm slide stop lever, just to have the tacticool look. It will lock the slide back on every 3rd or 4th shot and you will have to buy the original part to make it work. And that wipes out any advantage in getting a good price. Oh, well,
