M4 CAR Stock Help

I have what I believe to be a defective M4 CAR stock. When I thread it into my lower and it is adequately positioned to hold the retaining pin and spring for the buffer it protrudes very slightly into the lower, such that I cannot pin the upper in. The upper fits fine with the stock off and I put another M4 stock on that fits fine so I know it is an issue with the tube threads. Will my best bet will be to replace the tube? How do I go about pulling the stock off and putting a new tube in? Do I loosen the screw at the bottom somehow on the catch for the stock?

If I am reading you correctly the buffer tube (receiver extension) sounds screwed up.

To remove the stock pull down on the stock latch until the latch pin clears the channel in the tube, then pull the stock off.

No unscrewing necessary.

Don't buy a new one, file the old one.

You want the tube long enough such that it retains the pin & spring but short enough such that it won't prevent the upper from being attached to the lower. A few judicious strokes with a file and after reattaching, everything fitted. That's what I did with one tube.

OK, got a different stock (same manufacture). This one seems a bit better, but still only catches the very very edge of the retaining pin. It does not seem very secure, but has not popped out and the weapon hand cycles fine. The buffer has not popped out either. Is this the correct installation, or should it cover a bit more of the buffer retaining pin? As I recall with other stocks I have installed it seems to cover more of the bin and still not bind movement.

The LMT receiver extension (buffer tube) has a cutout for the buffer detent.

The stock Bushmaster tube does not, and looks like what you are describing.

Should work either way, if you are not happy with standard parts you might try ADCO firearms and see if they have the LMT tube.

I would go shoot it first and see if there are any problems.
