CCR Processing

My thoughts

I applied at Dakota County in Hastings. It was exactly 30 days when I recievd my permit in the mail!! I was pissed, they just take that long becuase they can.

While your waiting I would start practice carrying around your house. It will help you get used to the extra weight. It is also good practice for when you are out in the real world. When I was waiting for my permit to come I would carry around the house just to get the feel for it. I asked my wife to let me know when she thought I was carrying. She guessed it right most of the time because I tend to wear bulkier clothes while I am carrying. Then I would wear my sweatshirt around the house and she would say that I was carrying when I was just wearing the sweatshirt to fake her out. Bottom line is when you first get out in public you will feel like everyone is looking right at your gun. You will also want to touch it and adjust it a lot. Try to avoid this when possible. THe few times I have noticed other permit holders it was usually when they were adjusting their holster, gun, or cover garment.

Good Luck

By law they have 30 days to issue or deny.

In Hennepin Cty, IIRC I received mine in 21 days.

I'm surprised your instructor didn't go over the permitting process and let you know what to expect. Mine did, so I was pleasently surprised when it didn't take the full 30.

Good tips from Sturmruger, too.

?

I have heard of CHL, CWP, CCL, but never CCR...what does it stand for?

(other than Monkeylegs answer which I wasn't quick enough to post)

CCR = Collector of Curio and Relics - translated - generally lets you buy rfles/handgunns that are over 50 years old without a FFL license.

I see my check was processed on 11/29. I guess that is no guarantee that they will OK it.

I got my C&R license in about a month...not to bad.

I got my CCR album about twenty years ago...:p

3 weeks for me. The look on the young sheriff's face knowing they had to process my permit was priceless. I'll never forget that look.......and what it means.:neener: :D

In Montana it took about 3 days from when I dropped off the application to when the Sheriff called and left a message for me to come pick up the permit!

Woody-- I apologize for my ignorant reply. My brain went right to a carry permit, didn't even think of what CCR might mean otherwise (didn't know, either!)

Just like on the local radio show Garage Logic, I learn more here by accident than any other place by design.

Hope you get it soon.

and CraigGS : PCP... I like that. Think I'll start calling my carry permit a PCP... :D

I think my first one took about 6 weeks. Make sure your credit card or bank account has lots of money in it because you'll want to buy one or two of everything. Mausers, K31s, Mosin Nagants, and lots of others will be calling your name.

Hmmm.

I applied at Dakota County in Hastings too. Took eight days to get mine, including USPS time.

I suspect that they have a process where the Sheriff goes through the inbox of applications every 'n' days. Get your app in the day before he goes through them and you may be in luck and see your permit soon. Get it in the day after, and it may take 30 days.

Just guessing. In any event, if it takes a full 30 days I'm sure it's due to normal process issues, not "because they can".

Guys, read the entire thread! The poster said CCR, clarified he's talking about a C&R, not a carry permit.

Then there are 7 posts still talking about a carry permit.

Again...
It's C&R, not CCR.
It's magazine, not a clip.
In Minnesota, it's a carry permit, not a concealed and carry or concealed (whatever). There is nothing in statute stating a person has to conceal.
