I e.mailed Dixi Gun Works before Christmas to ask how much their catalogue would cost including postage to France. I just got a reply today which says $20.70 airmail and a delivery time of 3 weeks OR $10 seamail and a delivery time of 2-3 MONTHS!!
I thought transit times were getting better not worse!!! It was faster in the days of sail!
Just thought you would have a chuckle at this one!

Dixie is fun to read, but a good reference book/catalog is the Track of the Wolf catalog. The parts are photographed 1:1 scale so you can actually take measuresments off of the catalog.

Maybe they are still using Pony Express, for that "authentic" feel to things?

I'll stick with the online catalog.....Lately they have been out of stock on most of the things I've wanted anyway.

After the one they sent me, I would hope they are PERMANENTLY out of stock on their Palmetto line. What a piece of junk it was! I really like Dixie, have had excellent service from them and they took it back without complaint but I wonder what they are thinking to sell such an inferior gun in the first place.

"hope they are PERMANENTLY out of stock on their Palmetto line. What a piece of junk it was!"

In spite of all the suckola reviews on the Dixie site about Palmetto products, I ordered one of their Lincoln Derringer kits. Would have bought the Derringer itself but it was out of stock. The kit was a total piece of junk. - none of the parts fit and there were huge flaws in the wood. The tip of the sear crumbled away before I even got it finished and I was able to recut it to work. Metal was so soft, I could have used a nail file. The reason I did it was I needed to shoot one for research. Wouldn't set off caps unless I thinned them some and it was on a smaller scale than the actual Henry Deringer used by Booth.

Later, they got some more ready-mades in stock and also put in some lock parts that were not in the catalog before. The derringer now costs $525. A guy bought one and it broke on the first shot. Somebody deleted his review from the site.

Palmetto has a web page that works some of the time. They brag about servicing all their guns when, in fact, they service none of them. They do not answer e-mail. This has worked just fine for them for about 50 years so, why change now?

Pony Express wasn't that slow.

Yeah, but horses don't swim that good.

You'd think they'd have an online catalog? I haven't checked. Of course, the print catalog is really cool! :D I bought that cap maker out of it. You take slivers of aluminum coke can and punch out the caps with this die former and buy cap gun roll caps and punch the little part that bangs out and stick 'em in the cap you just made. I usually put three charges in each cap. They work GREAT on a revolver, but ain't so hot for my hawkin. But, it's just kinda cool that you can make your own cause I have to drive 30 miles to buy percussion caps.
