NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Drivers could immediately respond with deadly force to a forced attempt to enter their cars under a bill passed unanimously by the Senate on Thursday.

The measure sponsored by Sen. Don McLeary would expand the authorization of deadly force from homes to vehicles.

"This protects the rights of law abiding citizens instead of the villains," said McLeary, R-Jackson.

I hate to tell you fellas, but this is much ado about nothing. I've grown up in TN and if some goblin tryed to pull a carjacking there's never been any question that the driver would be treated as being justified in shooting said goblin if the citizen thought they're life were in danger. It's not a question of someone stealing your car justifying shooting the critter 'cause carjackings by their very nature are violent and potentially deadly.

Passing this piece of legislation is mearly codifying the right to self defense in the particular situation where a property crime is also a crime of violence.

And due note, it was passed by the Senate, not the House. I do not expect it's House companion to survive the committees. Liberal Speaker-Tyrant Naifeh does not allow anything pro-gun or NRA-supported to live.

I totally agree. I'm happy because this would give me something else to tease my friends that live in states less friendly towards guns.

Yes, but it still doesn't let this Georgia boy keep the means for such a defense in my car on my way to work. So I really don't see this as much more than some politicians going "hey, I'm pro RKBA! Look at me!"

Erin, if you have a GA carry permit, you can carry in TN.

Now, if your employer bans leaving it in your car, sorry for you. Our liberal friend Jimmy "Speaker" Naifeh (D-as if you didn't know) kills those bills in the House. Until he is out of power, we don't get good gun laws. Hate that it is so simple, but there it is.

I'm aware of that, but I don't have a GFL (Georgia Firearms License). After I get situated in a new appartment, I'll apply, but it still takes around six months to get it in Catoosa County. I'm not sure about Walker Co., but the thought of living in Rossville is a little too much for me to bear.

Erin, if you get a non-res license from anywhere it is good as well. TN accepts any permit. I hear NH takes less than a week.

Armed, turkeys only attack Californians, because they are unarmed, and will blame the rough neighborhood the poor turkey grew up in where he had to scavenge for food in poverty.
