Been watching for heavy duty workbench, reasonable. Cobbled up a new bench of 2x4's and plywood. Works, but....

Anyway, stumbled onto KOBALT 46"x24" 2-drawer on sale at Lowe's. Regular $88 IIRC, on clearance @ $38. Got it mostly assembled in about 1hr and seems like it'll be pretty solid. Capacity supposed to be 1200lbs. Has a hi-density composition top, may put plywood over it w/ large steel washers or plates to mount the press.

Kobalt Bench

Bob,

I bought the Kobalt 4 Drawer bench from Loews and then went back to the store to buy a Formica kitchen counter top (pre-made in many colors, from light to dark in the kitchen department) to install instead of the 46 inch slab of MDF that comes with the package. I wanted a counter top that would resist oil, etc. and got the added bonus of a couple more inches (48 of 'em to be exact). The counter top installs the same as the MDF slab and the splash guard at the rear of the counter top keeps my small parts from rolling off the back of the bench top. I used the MDF slab to create a storage area under the bench.

Whether you go for a kitchen counter or use the MDF slab, you bought a darn good bench.

Now I wish I had two of 'em, side by side.

Buddy, yeah, been considering that formica for the fluid resistance! Maybe I can find something on clearance since color really won't matter. Funny, wife said "get 2!" when she saw the clearance price. I did!

Lex, I'll try to figure out how to use my digital camera this week and get a picture. Then I'll try to figure out how to post it. More technical expertise than I have at the moment, but I'm proud of my bench and I always regret not being able to show it off like other folks on THR.

National Reloaders Assn. Plans for reloading bench $4

The plans for a really good reloading bench can be had at the price of $4.00 from the National Reloaders Assn. I have built two of them and swear that they are good and VERY HEAVY. My last bench was built from Pine and Melamine Particle board, before you go off on Particle board let me explain the board has a hard coating on it similar to Formica but not as brittle and is not a application it is already there, Mine is right at a year old now and shows no signof wear, scratches or most importantly stains, I chose double sided coating in white and if memory serves me corectly it comes inother colors and if you wnt coating on one side only, nice part when it if finished built NO PAINT, NO Varnish, nothing it is done except the frame edges and that is up to you if you want to finish them or not.View attachment 40313

Thanks for the reply, I put a lot of thought into this one the first one was not to my liking I guess that is why I never set it up, my buddy loves it though so it didn't go to waste.
