The bad news: the bluing is shot and it's now a steely gray patina.

The good news: same as above, plus the bore is absolutely mirror clean.

I can't wait to shoot it and I'll post a couple of pics. One thing though, the safety is really sticky. Any suggestions?

You probably got cosmoline inside the bolt. Mine worked fine after I completely disassembled the bolt and bathed every part in mineral spirit.

The bolt on mine had so much cosmoline inside that when you pulled the trigger, it didn't go "click" -- it went ssssqqqqwwwwooooooooooossssshhhhhh.

A local FFL...

I paid a little too much for it ( about $145 total), but I really wanted the rifle. I got the package deal with the bayonet, sling, and cleaning kit. It's motivated me to get a C&R license.

Dont feel bad, I paid more than that for mine. But the barrel was blue, and the bore is still mirror shiny. I refinished it a few years back, now its all shiny.

yup c&r them

just shot mine for the first time todya. bear in mind mine is all matching numbers (stamped) but boy is the bolt face pitted. oh well. still does tolerably well at 50 yards, will need to adjust sights to suit me i suppose.

anyone got suggestions on how to shift sights?

Remove the front sight hood, the best tool for this job is a pair of snap ring pliers which also happens to be the best tool to get the hood back on.

The front sight will be staked in place, use a dremmel tool with a tiny burr bit or a drill with a very thin bit and take off a bit of metal where the staking between the sight and base meets, this will free up the sight. Use a brass drift and a hammer with the barrel carefully supported to move the sight in the opposite direction you want the pointof impact to change- If the rifle is shooting to the left, move the front sight to the left.

thanks!

and sorry for semi-hijacking.

seems like every cruffler has a dremel... time to buy my own. hm. anyone got a dremel set they want to sell? =p

btw, i don't know about your 24/47, but mine is tu-tone. heh.
and don't you just love that muzzle protector? awesome engineering.

Muzzle protector?

Mine is a two-tone as well. I thought about refinishing it, but decided to leave it alone.

Appearance notwithstanding, these old rifles CAN SHOOT! After mounting a 4x scout scope, I'm consistently shooting 1.5 - 2.0 MOA at 100 yards using Yugo surplus ammo. It should get even better after bedding and a new trigger.
