I'm curious as to how the spring system works in a switchblade knife, not the folding type but the OTF ones.

Look at a ball point pen with a retractable point for the basic. All Out The Front automatic knives operate with a spring driving the blade forward. In the pen the spring wraps around the ink resevoir. In the OTF the spring compresses under the tang. Through good design the knifemaker produces a compact package that fits everything into the handle.

Take a look at this mini-movie at Microtech. Towards the end of it you'll see one of their OTF knives assembled.http://www.microtechknives.com/images/stories/movies/microtech1.mov Keep in mind that the knife is assembled with the spring compressed and the blade in place. I can tell you from personal experience that it's rather nerve wracking to do.

I would worry to much about it, it's kind of mixture of magic and alchemy.

Nah, in all seriousness, I've fixed mine when I broke it, taken it apart loads of times and I still can't figure out how the dam thing works:eek: :D
