There is a credible argument to be made that the 2.5- and 3-inch K frame magnums are the best concealed carry handguns for most civilians. I am one who believes this to be true, and carry a 2.5-inch M19 more than any other handgun. I also am partial to my BHP for carry, but the M19 is my companion much more often.
There is very little wrong with the K frame magnums as fighting guns, and they excel greatly in most all categories of performance for civilian concealed carry arms. They are pretty damn sexy too.
My only critizism of the K frames are the serrated backstrap, serrated trigger, and the fact that no bobbed-hammer DAO version was every offered from the factory. Also, the nickel-plated M19s such as mine, have a nickeled front sight, which is simply stupid but easily remedied.
Otherwise, these guns are simply unbelievably good at what they were created to do. They are phenomenally accurate, powerful, compact and durable. They are easy to conceal and carry, reliable and easy to maneuver in public places without undue risk of accidental discharge. Many who do not carry regularly are not aware of the many situations where you must handle your gun while out and about, or where your concealed gun could come into contact with foreign objects.
Using public restrooms requires that the gun be handled.
Using public dressing rooms requires that the gun be handled.
Going into places where the gun is not permitted requires that the gun be handled.
Going to you local health club requires that the gun be handled.
The K frame revolvers are very secury and less accident prone in these situations where the gun must be handled.
In addition, there are a number of waist-height items, such as counters, guard railings designed to define waiting lines at the bank, mcdonalds, etc., that your gun can bump against, snag on, etc. even when under your clothing. I have had the safety on my BHP snicked off when it bumped a guard pole just so while I was walking in a restaurant. A rare occurrence, but one not possible with a good K frame.
In short, I love mine and absolutely would buy another upon sight.
