Got a letter from email today that pointed out some problems with Senate Bill 1. There is a section numbered 220 that looks to limit how much NRA or any other group can inform us about things we need to contact our lawmakers on.
Go to http://thomas.loc.gov to read more about it and see if your take is the same as mine. Sounds like we need to let our senators know we don't like this part of the bill.

Here is the text of this section:

S.1
To provide greater transparency in the legislative process. (Placed on Calendar in Senate)

SEC. 220. DISCLOSURE OF PAID EFFORTS TO STIMULATE GRASSROOTS LOBBYING.

(a) Definitions- Section 3 of the Act (2 U.S.C. 1602) is amended--

(1) in paragraph (7), by adding at the end of the following: `Lobbying activities include paid efforts to stimulate grassroots lobbying, but do not include grassroots lobbying.'; and

(2) by adding at the end of the following:

`(17) GRASSROOTS LOBBYING- The term `grassroots lobbying' means the voluntary efforts of members of the general public to communicate their own views on an issue to Federal officials or to encourage other members of the general public to do the same.

`(18) PAID EFFORTS TO STIMULATE GRASSROOTS LOBBYING-

`(A) IN GENERAL- The term `paid efforts to stimulate grassroots lobbying' means any paid attempt in support of lobbying contacts on behalf of a client to influence the general public or segments thereof to contact one or more covered legislative or executive branch officials (or Congress as a whole) to urge such officials (or Congress) to take specific action with respect to a matter described in section 3(8)(A), except that such term does not include any communications by an entity directed to its members, employees, officers, or shareholders.

`(B) PAID ATTEMPT TO INFLUENCE THE GENERAL PUBLIC OR SEGMENTS THEREOF- The term `paid attempt to influence the general public or segments thereof' does not include an attempt to influence directed at less than 500 members of the general public.

If I'm not reading too much into this, it would limit NRAnews since it is directed to the general public and not just NRA members.

....would limit NRA news since it is directed to the general public...

And Rush , GG Liddy, Mike Church , Wilkow , Bennet . It shuts down the thing the Libs fear most.

I just sent an e-mail to one of our State's Senators and called the other, but his voice mail said it was 'full'. I bet! :banghead:

I urged them both to oppose Section 220 of S.1 and support the Bennett amendment to S.1.

Used this following info to conntact them about it:

TAKE ACTION
Call your senators and ask them to support the Bennett Amendment that would strike Section 220 from S. 1. To find their phone numbers quickly, go to the Senate Web site and look for "Find Your Senators" at the top right corner. Select your state, and it will show you the numbers.

As long as they (Congress men and women) think that you and I are fat, dumb and happy, they will continue to erode our civil rights until we have none.

The recent attacks on the 1st Amendment are just another phase in the all out assault on freedom. They have been successfully defying the Second Amendment for decades. The drug war has emasculated our right to be safe from unlawful search and seizure. Now is the time to take on the right that allows us to talk about this evil. Once the power mongers succeed we will not even be able to commiserate since it will be illegal to even tell another person about the pranging the government gave you in the name of homeland security.

`(19) GRASSROOTS LOBBYING FIRM- The term `grassroots lobbying firm' means a person or entity that--

`(A) is retained by 1 or more clients to engage in paid efforts to stimulate grassroots lobbying on behalf of such clients; and

`(B) receives income of, or spends or agrees to spend, an aggregate of $25,000 or more for such efforts in any quarterly period.'.

I can see this curtailing a lot of pre-election work at the county and state
level. This was being argued today on a Christian radio station as only a
problem when $100K is spent in a year, when it is actually a problem if
it is $25K in a single quarter.

Gun-owners need to wake up on this one. This isn't going to just affect
"other causes" (religion, non-profits, the enviros), this will affect protecting
the Second Amendment by limiting public education efforts.

If this becomes law, it will be interesting to see how it is interpreted and
implemented. Surely it will not be used to harass state and county RKBA groups....
