How Good are they Supposed to Shoot

I have a basic question of accuracy for black powder revolvers. A buddy and I just got back from a couple days of shooting and we put about 300 or more rounds through my 1858 Remmie Pietta. We were going non stop to test a few theries or suggestions. Anyway I was able to hit 1 1/2 inch targets at 15 yards no problem and at 25 yards I am still at 5 out of 6 soda cans, some times 4 but I can't ever get all 6 to fly, oh well. My buddy made a bet he could hit a 2 liter at 50 yards, I took the bet. He hit it 2nd shot, I said to prove it he needs to do it again and the *&^%$%&^% did it over and over again. We then set a bunch of them out at 50 and 75 yards and he stood there shooting them down with my gun, I never hit one, I got close just in front to the left to the right and right over the top but I couldn't hit it. What kind of range it this supposed to be good for? My eyes can't hardly see the #$%$#@ things at 75 yards.

My experience:

Discounting the shooter, a good revolver will hit a 2 inch target most of the time, at 25 yards. ( 4 out of 6 )

It'll hit a 6 inch target at 50 yards... most of the time. ( Again, 3-4 out of 6 )

At 100 yards, figure that with a 12 inch target... at least 2, maybe 3, out of 6.

If you have a great revolver, you can double the number of times you'll hit those same targets at those distances.

Remember, this is just mechanical accuracy.... it has nothing to do with how well the person is or is not holding/pointing the gun.

And for what it's worth, hitting a tall skinny object is usually easier than hitting a low, wide one. Windage is easy... elevation, not so much. At least for me.

P.S. I don't consider that there's any practical difference between BP and cartridge guns, other than load, and consistency with loading. If you're sloppy with loading a BP gun, you are in essence firing a different load every shot. Might be 25 grains, might be closer to 30. And if you cast your own bullets, and are equally as sloppy... well, there goes the whole ball game.

I know a shooter owning and shooting a 1858 remington ( a real one, not replica ! ).
He was able to do 2" groups at 25m ( about 25 yrds ).
