The prices are about what i expected, althouh though the Winchester price was a little high.

But did i read right????? :what: The Saginaw M1 will not be sold till Jan 2009!!! Guess i will time to save up for one. I live just outside of Saginaw, I tourned the Saginaw stearing gear plant when i was a kid. Too bad its no longer called stearing gear since Delfi took over.

I also got the ship email from CMP today for my Inland. Too back they shipped it on friday and will not get it till monday :cuss: Oh well

I just looked through the blue book on Carbine prices and see Winchester is the 2nd highest priced.

I thought Winchester was the 2nd highest manfufacturer of the lot. 1st being inland. (correct me if i am wrong)

Any reason other than the name that Winchester is so pricey?

May have to save up for one. Allready have a underwood.

Too bad they were sold out before they hit the warehouse

Sold out??? Which one's do you mean? The other one's havn't even gone on sale yet. When they do it will be a race. Fedex overnight will be a must. But the inlands took orders till the 18th.

I wouldn't rush, boys. The prices they are asking are quite high considering the condition of the carbines. They are generally mixmasters with all of the "late" modifications, and either beat-up (no original cartouches) or replacement european stocks. The prices they are asking are about what such guns have gone for in recent years on the open market, or even higher. With the big influx of supply caused by CMP sales, prices will only fall. Within a couple of years, you'll be able to buy all of these CMP guns at your local gun shows or on auction sites for the CMP price or less.

Before the first batch of carbines went on sale lots of people were saying they were overpriced and poor condition and it would take a long, long time for them to sell out. In fact they only lasted 18 days. Prices are only going higher.

Prices are too high imo. I'll just pick up one locally for about $100 less when I get that far down on my wish list thanks.

I didn't say that CMP wouldn't sell out quickly; I said that you'd be able to buy those same guns at gun stores and shows and online auction sites within a year of the CMP sales, and for prices about the same or less than CMP. Lots of people are rushing to buy from CMP, so CMP will sell out quickly. The total demand has not increased, however, and lots of those CMP sales will get flipped in the market before long, resulting in a substantial increase in supply. With supply rising and demand relatively constant, prices will fall; it's simple econ 101. And if you wait to buy in the open market, you'll be able to personally inspect lots of examples, choose the ones in best condition, and negotiate price. I've been buying nice M1 carbines here and there for $400-750 for the last few years before the CMP sales were announced, and the ones I've been buying are nicer than the ones CMP is offering. For example, I got a real nice Winchester in excellent condition two years ago for $600.

But if you want to rush off and order sight unseen from CMP, then be my guest. I'll continue cherry picking the best ones at good prices when I find them.

CMP hasn't offered bargains on anything in more than a decade. There was a time when DCM/CMP guns were bargains, and you could get real special examples. Nowadays, they price them at or above the market, what they have left is, for the most part, the bottom of the barrel in terms of condition and collector desirability. When CMP does find something special, they auction it off to the highest bidder.

While I agree that 'Father knows best' on the Carbines, I must disagree with:
CMP hasn't offered bargains on anything in more than a decade.
I bought 2 M1's and sold one at a gunshow for enough that the one I kept only cost me $50... Seemed like a bargain to me!

What I mean is all teh paperwork sent in prior to release date, so that on release date, voosh, all gone. Happened with teh last batch.

they were not accepting orders before the release. all orders were sent back

well this gives me time to save up and get my CR. ( damn BATFE!!!)

Thats true any orders recived before the date was returned. I send my inland order 4 days after the start date and got one.

Although with the next groups you will need to have your order there on the first day to make sure you get one. Fedex overnight would be my choice.

Another one in agreement with FKB here, the influx of the CMP Carbines into the market should drive prices down (for awhile). And I too am waiting to cherry pick a really nice one on the general market. Until then, I'll enjoy shooting my great looking, 100% reliable AO/Kahr M1 Carbine.

Speaking of the AO/Kahr M1 Carbines, I can't help but believe that the CMP Carbines will drive down the price a little of those as well.

I donlt belive that the CMP carbine will drive the prices down that much. Its not like they imported a few hundred thousands of them. I seem to understand they got around 30,000 of them. I would think of most the guns went to collectors who not turn around and sell them. Sure they will be some that will make the marker but not most of them.

Like the M1 garands that the CMP sold, i didn;t see any big decrease of the the value of them.

IMO

I tend to disagree. While it certainly is possible the "other" carbines out on the market might go down a little, I think it more likely that the price will just be stagnant for a few years. The main affect is that CMP has taken some of the "I want one of each" collectors off the market who really want that true military surplus example.

As i stated the price will not probally not down, but reman the same for at least until the CMP is done selling them and i suspect they will start going up again.

Future speculation on the price of my CMP carbine is irrelevant! It's not being sold anytime soon! And if others like their new acquisition as much as I do mine, I doubt the prices will ever see any significant decrease!

I've seen the prices of carbine increase locally. The "one per owner" and "slow release" restrictions has limited the reselling of the CMP carbines somewhat. If anything, this has proved there's a demand for them, but still a limited supply.
