Here are a couple pics of my user. Note that even though she is a pig, she has been well-maintained. Just goes to show you that if you feed your girl, lube her up and frequently play with her, she'll last you a long time. Hope the pics loaded o.k.

In real combat, a light on your weapon will merely tell the BG exactly where you are. Any idiot can fire at a light.

I agree with that mostly, however, in the home, target identification is also very important. I guess it comes down to whether you'd rather make yourself a target or accidentally blow away the kids. Well that might be an extreme example, but...

If a bad guy uses your light to identify your position then you screwed up because you left the light on. The correct procedure for using a tac light is to flash it just long enough to identify the target and then take cover (not concealment) in a different position immediately, possibly firing along the way if warranted. A guy hit in the face with 125 lumens or more from a surefire is going to be disoriented for long enough to let you do this. Either that or he was not facing you to begin with and will have to spin around which again will give you the time. For all of you who still want to avoid giving away your position at all costs then just get gen 3 night vision for crying out loud. :cuss:

Lewis Awerbuck seems to think a light on a shot gun is better than a good idea, almost essential as the Harries position doesn't work well. But then again what would he know?

Here's a Wilson Scattergun Tech border patrol:

BA/UU/R is the first part of user modification.

Then you can either remodel your 870, or find a USMC-issue 870 Mk1. ;)

Not the greatest pic but here is my house gun. 870 Express, factory extension, Surefire 9 volt forend light and Houge stock.

870P. A Surefire 6v so I know what I'm shooting at. A buttcuff to balance out the Surefire. No extension, ruins the balance for me. A wood stock. And lots of Hornady OO 2 3/4" buck.

Your heart it thumping at about 140 bpm, your hands are sweaty, your hearing is acute. You have forgotten most of the 4 rules because there is so much adreneline rushing through your veins. You have a round in the chamber and your finger on the trigger.... time to go point that light at your kids??!

Sometimes it is important to be able to shine your light at something without sweeping it. Do you really want to point a shotgun at your kids to make sure they are ok because you heard a bump in the night? I don't have lights on my guns.

Argue all you want re: weapon-attached lights. 5 watt night light in kitchen, same in common bath, ambient light elsewhere, no kids at home, good night vision for an old fart. Besides, bio-tech 4 legged alarm probably gonna remove targets before I can engage.

Wife has bad bad habit of turning on porch light when she puts the dog out; ruins my night vision.

Stay safe.

Good way to light up a potential target without sweeping them is to flash the ceiling. The whole room can be illuminated this way and you don't have to worry about negligent discharges at anything except maybe a chandelier.

The thing with the lights is you don't actually have to aim it at what you're looking at. THey're plenty bright to light up half the room.

Since we're all on this site, we can all probably figure out how to use the gun plus or minus some bolt-ons. Odds are good that you'll use it at the range a few times before you have to use it "in real life".

And in response to Dave McCracken, the police often use a short-barreled shotgun with a pistol grip for vehicle defense.

And if you're pointing your gun at your kids in the middle of the night with a light attached, they won't be able to see that it's a gun.

The pictures are pretty self explanatory. Basic 870 Express' the bottom one is a Express Magnum, with a few add ons. Both have Wolff stainless steel magazine springs, Wilson hi-vis shell followers and Wilson jumbo head safeties. Both have the old style aluminum trigger guard assemblies.

And I for one have been a fan of lights on guns for a long ,long, time.

Ghost ring sights, maybe a side saddle and 6 round magazine extention. (That is to say, makes the gun hold 6+1, not adds six more rounds.) Synthetic furnature is fine if that's how you roll.
All you'll ever need in a shotgun.
