This is an old thread, but since it has been ressurected, I'll throw my $.02 in too!
My "range toy" shotgun is probably more plain than most. I use it in the "Field Class" for our local "Practical Shotgun Matches". It is a 12ga Remington 870 Express with 18.5" barrel, bead sight and stock/short mag tube (4+1). I have added a Knoxx CompStock, Hogue forend, Wilson Combat big button safety, 6 shot side saddle and a sling. That's it. I've been debating a set of Wilson Combat ghost-ring sights, but I haven't "pulled the trigger" yet... Pardon the pun.
My "under the bed" or "SHTF" shotgun is a 14" Mossberg 590A1. It has a flush mag tube (5+1), Knoxx CompStock (I
really like those CompStocks!
), Hogue forend, and a 6 shot side saddle. I have a sling for it, but it's not on the gun in the house. I have a rail on the receiver, and occaisionally I play at the range with an EOTech mounted to it. This one is eventually going to Vang for his full-meal-deal Vang Comp process, but that'll be it for this one.
My next toy is going to be a "Limited Class" Remington 1100 that will have all the goodies. I have the gun, I just haven't had the time to start building it yet. When finished, this one is going to be a range toy only.
I will also agree with everyone else. Fit is very important, and practice is paramount! Every one of my guns goes to the range a few times a month, just so I can stay sharp in the event that I have to use one, any one, to defend myself or a loved one.
