new member here, and the 'gun owners who don't know about guns' thread applies to me to some degree :what:, so I was wondering if there are any good books to read as a starting place, and any suggestions on more advanced texts to read, thanks for any help

yeah sorry should have been more specific, i'm looking more toward the technical side, handloading would be cool to know, but i need more of the basics at this point. i've only ever owned an AK and a bolt action 22 magnum, i know those guns well enough (could always know more) but aside from them i am pretty clueless as to others.
i only ever clean my guns to manual specs...didn't even know till reading threads on here that it would be possible to further dissasemble a receiver etc. etc.

the NRA Firearms Factbook seems liek a good place to start, thanks for the suggestion

If you're at all interested in self-defense, Massad Ayoob's In the Gravest Extreme is a must-read.

A good book to read before engaging in self defense is "In the Gravest Extreme". I think another poster mentioned it.

One book that is out of print but can be acquired through Amazon is "Survival Guns". Kind of dated, and more focused than some books, but don't let the title fool you. It has a lot of information in it, and if nothing else it will make you think about your firearms purchases, why one gun over another, etc.

The Complete Guide To Guns And Shooting might be a little too basic for you, but it does cover many different subjects and the chapters on firearm types and shooting disciplines might expose you to some new interests.

The Lyman Reloading Manual is a good one if you want to take up handloading. It's also interesting if you want to understand how cartridges are put together and want a reference to compare the ballistics of various cartridges.

sig226, those seem like what i am looking for at present, and will be able to expand upon those afterwards, thanks for all the suggestions everyone.
