So, Thursday afternoon I was up at my stand. I'd been grunting all afternoon when I hear this guy coming. The leaves were real dry and there was no wind, so I could tell it was a deer coming from a long way off. He was coming from under the peak of the hollow I was hunting, so I couldn't see him for a good while. I hit the grunt call again, and he pinpointed me then. He comes up the hill and stops to check it out and look around, showing me from front shoulder to head. I was ready for him already and since he was stopped and presented a clear neck-shot, I took it. DRT. I let him lay for about 5 mins and then went up to check him out. He's no monster, but a decent one for the first one of the year. I'm just glad to get the first buck outta the way, so the pressure's off. I was using a Tikka T3 Lite .243 with Federal 100 gr at about 40 yards.
