Does anybody here think that the government will ever re-open the auto-weapons registry that was closed in the GCA of 86?

No.

The only chance we had to roll back the anti-gun laws was the Republicans getting in control, they did, and they have been a total disappointment.

If the Democrats gain total control, especially with a nut case like hillery as President, your grandkids will be lucky if they can own a 22 single shot rifle.

Your kids are being brainwashed in school into thinking that ANYTHING, even pointing a finger and saying "Bang" is evil, and they are the future.

ATF actually considered another amnesty prior to the 86 machinegun ban, but it was killed due to political considerations.

Not gunna happen. Most people thing NFA stuff is already illegal. Most are surprised when they find out there are quite a few civilian owners of totle II goodies.

Yes

Yes

Yes

But the more important question:

If the registry is opened which manufactures will make FA's for us, I see Bushmaster, RRA, and Auto-Ordinance as making that happen

Colt, HK, no way, in the case of the latter they wont because we suck and they hate us.

IMHO, after the next major terrorist attack on US soil, we need to hammer the heck out of them to "encourage military firearms research and development." The "Military R&D Act of 2009" may actually stand a chance.

I've got some ideas too, and friends who are master machinists...

Congress won't be reopening the registry until we get a lot more pro-gun Congressmen in office than we had in 2004.

Depending on how Heller goes, it is conceivable that additional cases could be brought that might cause the registry to be reopened. That is a lot of ifs though.

I think it will be reopened, just probably not for 10 years or so. The problem is mainly baby-boomers. They run the country and (with apologies to the ones on THR) tend to be mush-minded when it comes to guns. They are more interested in medical marijuana and getting their social security benefits. The hope lies in the younger generation which as a whole is more pro-gun and especially more pro-AW or pro MG. We didn't grow up on bolt actions and break-opens. We grew up on Uzis and AKs. I can guarantee you that the under-30 crowd wants unneutered AWs. We'll get them... as soon as the old farts retire or pass away. When younger pro-gun politicians are in office they probably WILL use reopening the registry as part of their platform. MGs only scare older people. Young people think they're cool.

Armalite, Kel-Tec, DSA, Lancaster, Arsenal............

If they opened it to imported FA, I'd bet on Magunum research getting us some Israeli goodies. But that definitely won't happen.

I hope it opens up, personally I don't really have the lust for a full auto yet but even something like a Glock 18c would be amazing. I am more excited about the repeals of other stupid gun control laws such as the "sporting clause" because I want a Glock in .380

If, and its a very big if, I'm sure they would also increase the tax to something that would still be out of reach for the average joe. Something along the lines of $10,000 tax stamp to keep the rabble from thinking they arm themselves as well as the .gov.

The tax (inflation adjusted) would be around $3100.00, that would not bother me seeing it's going to be $58,000 for the minigun, $3,600 for the M249, and another $10,000 for ammo :D

Yes, I intend to have everyone stare at me at the range

Even if Heller goes our way, it is very unlikely that the registration would be reopened, or could even successfully be reopened through judicial review (and that assumes that we would have an executive branch willing to listen to the court and enfore the ruling- to quote a POLS proffessor I had "there is NO Supreme Court Army"). One of the major problems in DC is that you can't buy a handgun, even if it is currentely on the DC registry. AS long as you are in a MG OK state, you can still acquire a machine-gun.

Yeah, I understand that, but what would be the isssue with making machine guns a non-exclusive to the uber-rich. I would like to own a MG, but I couldn't justify paying 20K or more for a decent one. Furthermore, what happens when the registered MG's begin to break down or are destroyed. I believe that once the last registered MG is gone, it has to constitute a 2A violation since the people will not be allowed to the RKBA in regard to MG's.

You make the very big assumption here that lots of people have the $12-20,000 required to get a good-quality machinegun. Even crappy MACs are 3-4k. Sheetmetal Stens from WW2 are $6-8,000. Just because they are "available" doesn't mean anyone in an MG state can get one.

Of course not, that would mean the NFA is about rax revenue and not prohibition.

Anything is Possible, it's just a Matter of When and How.

This will likely have a better chance of happening if Ron Paul is Elected, but the elections are far from starting yet.

Time Will Tell.

wow, you sure are a pinnacle of Optimism.

the question was "Is it Possible" Not "Is it Likely to Happen".

With that kind of attitude we would still have the 94 AWB

Shall issue concealed carry, the expiration of the AWB, expiration of the Brady waiting period. On the local level many states have also seen preemption of logal gun control and other progun legal changes. The climate trend for gun rights has been in our favor for some time now, and some fruit of our efforts may be coming into reach soon, if we push for them.

And if you order it from RRA, you may get the rifle three to six months after you get the form 4.
