My girlfriend and I are going up to Johnson City (Roan Mountain) sometime in March to look around. We currently live in Ft. Myers, Florida, but we're thinking about possibly moving if we like it. Are there any good ranges or gun clubs in the area, and how is the housing market in that part of the country? Thanks for any input you can give.

I live in Piney Flats right next to Johnson City. I work in Johnson City. The housing market used to be very cheap but over the last few years, we've been turning into a retirement area. They are moving down here buying up land building big subdivisions and making our property values skyrocket. There are not a lot of jobs outside the medical and retail fields. We do still enjoy alot of good shooting. We have Kettlefoot rod and gun, Cherokee rod and gun, Unaka rod and gun, and 2 open to the public national park ranges.

PM me if ya need any more info.

Thanks chipperi,
I have a friend that built on some acerage in Roan Mountain and likes it very well.
We will be visiting with him and looking the area over as well. Seems to me that if they are building a lot of new subdivisions, that the real estate business would be doing well. My girlfriend is a realtor here and is interested in doing so in Johnson City and surrounding areas.

Do you have any input as far as that goes? By the way, what do you do in Johnson City? Thanks

I was raised in Jonesborough/Johnson City. I retired in Sept of 06 and am moving back. My whole family is there.

I was daoe there six times last year looking around. I'm looking around Greeneville or Erwin. I'm coming down on Feb. 04 and staying until March 10.

There is a gun club in Greeneville that hosts both USPSA and IDPA matches.

Funny you should ask as I have my Real Estate license though it is in retired status. I got out as houses don't move here very fast avg time on market is 6 months I got tired of waiting on commissions. There are hundreds of realtors in this small area so it is fairly cut throat. Most of the developers have a relative that is their exclusive agent. The big plus here is low crime and virtually no gun laws. Oh and I work in printing for RR Donnelley

Went to ETSU for undergrad and grad school. I absolutely loved it there. May wind up moving back sometime.
