Ultimate Survival Vehicle

http://www.sportsmobile.com/ultimate.html

If you're in the vicinity of an atomic blast and close enough to be hit with EMP (line of sight) then it's a good bet you have bigger problems than being unable to start your vehicle.

While we're on the topic here is the ultimate survival home but it's also going to serve as the place we'll build for retirement. My wife calls it her "Hobbit Home." It's 100%: Fireproof, weather proof (including F5 Tornado and Level 5 Hurricane), insect proof, earthquake proof, bulletproof (except for air strikes and artillery) and maintains a year round temperature of about 72 degrees f. Possibly the only maintenance required is that there will be times when you may have to mow your roof. No painting, either. Many of these are built to be energy independent, "off grid" so to speak.

ExSoldier... you may find this interesting: http://monolithic.com

As for vehicles and EMP/electrical issues... an older diesel is the way to go for a lot of reasons including ability to run on a variety of available less refined oils (from heating oil to animal fat). Modern diesels (from VW, Mercedes, BMW, etc) are computer controlled and vulnerable to the same issues as modern gasoline engines.

A diesel motorcycle would make an excellent get out of the city vehicle... no being stuck in gridlock when you can filter through the lines of cars... but diesel bikes still tend to be expensive and simple gasoline bikes are almost as reliable.

I knew I could bring this baby out of retirement sometime!

what makes them hurricane- and tornado- and earthquake-proof?
no

taliv... I suspect the answer is "mass".

Another interesting angle on that is Cal-Earth structures. They are designed to be very cheap to build (the main guy there was mainly focused on developing countries) and earthquake/storm proof... they use stable structures (arches and domes) and a lot of mass to make extremely tough buildings that can withstand pretty much anything except direct attacks with high explosives.

EMP

That old rusted truck sitting in your back yard for 10 yrs will not be affected.

I find it interesting people are complaining about a topic that is actually being studied by the govt., yet don't compain about topics on Zombie attacks and tactics.

If I recall there was a segment on Futurweapons about the concern that a terrorist group could build an emp device. Even to the extent that it could be used at an altitude to effect a large area.
