This is tied to a wider Daley onslaught, which includes a comprehensive PR campaign across the whole media. He himself appeared at a church yesterday to say that guns, like smoking cigarettes, should be banned.
The poll will no doubt result in an overwhelming "yes" result, like the others he has engineered. Yes, we should still try to tip it back to reality a bit, but there's no stopping him now. He has a complete Cook County ban in place ready to be enacted at any moment, and dealer licensing to close out the rest of the state.

Done.

Former Crook Couny subject, I meant resident, now living in Texas.
And sitting here typing with a 1911 on my hip :)

Good luck, my fellow Illinoids.

Just playing devil's advocate here

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it that when we vote twice on things like this, it's all fun and games, but if we hear about politicians doing it, or otherwise fiddling with the numbers, it's an outrage?

Because the God given rights protected by the BOR should NEVER be voted on, not even in a phone poll

If they can put my 2A rights to a vote, I should be able to put there 1A rights to a vote, in which my vote would be shut the hell up

Voted against from Texas......twice

But by voting multiple times, we're still playing the same type of game - essentially stuffing the ballot box of public opinion. While that may be ok to you, it isn't to me. I'd rather that we played fair, and didn't sink to their level while rationalizing it away as "well, it's ok because it's not a vote, just an opinion."

Basically, my point is this - if we expect the system to change, and people in positions of power to play fair, we must do the same and present our side of the argument honestly. Otherwise what's the point?

In case you've missed the memo, this "debate" about our Rights isn't a "debate" and hasn't been one for a while .... especially if you look at how the media controls what makes it to the evening news or the front page.

Example. There was almost (I didn't read every paper or watch every channel) zero to none news coverage of the IGOLD march in Springfield this past week ... in the Chicago media. This is a march that drew close to 2500 marchers. Guess what? Last night on the evening news they devoted close to two minutes of air time to an anti-violence meeting calling for more gun control. They interviewed the organizer of the meeting and let him have his say. There were exactly SIX people seated around a folding table in the musty basement of a church ... that's counting at least one child. SIX people get almost two minutes of evening news time while 2500 don't even get an honorable mention.

Like I've heard said previously .... this isn't a debate, it's a bar fight and as such "any chair in a bar fight." Vote away on these "public opinion" polls.

Because we are stuffing the ballot box of public opinion. It is no different than carrying a larger sign than your opposition at the protest rally. The First Amendment allows us to do it.

now, for an actual mandated election, it would be wrong. This would apply to our elected officials AND to us regular folk.

If the lady manning the voting booth at the schoolboard election was nearly blind, you could probably go to your car, put on your fake beard and different hat, come back in and vote again. That would be wrong.

If the lady manning the opinion poll at the county fair was the same blind old bat, then sure, wear as many fake beards as you want.

No vote from Georgia. To bad it doesn't give feed back as to the percentages. Locals please let us know how it went.

Guys i voted opposed the gun law,I was born in chicago,in cook county, but now live in louisiana. But i still don't agree taking away our rights.Obama is going to make it a fellony if your gun is stollen from your house and used in a crime.(who
would think it)

Voted 'NO' from CA. Remember this the next time we find ourselves fighting our own socialist lawmakers in CA. Instead of the typical CA bashing, unabashed assistance would be helpful *and* appreciated.

Maybe I' too caught up...

What with my living here and all, fighting gun bans, and tax increases etc. I of course voted several times from all the phone lines I could access (4 as of this writing). THANKS to all of you who live elsewhere and still "feel our pain":what:

Tell that the Boston tea party. Also, the residents of Lexington and Concord need notified. Just saying.
