I have a pretty cheap .45 that shoots like a dream. It is a conglomeration of cheap stuff: Norinco frame, cheap Sarco slide, $40.00 Roto barrel.

Happiness can be a cheap 45 :)

Just yesterday, one of the guys at the shop was detail stripping a SA Mil Spec he got essentiall free -- tough to go wrong w/ a 1911 ;) Congrats

My first 1911 Goverment and I still like her the most outta the three. No stovepipes, FTE, FTFs, etc. She's a clean mean, blastin machine.

SAS,

Surprisingly good. I can shoot a big hole with it at 30'. What surprises me is how smooth the slide glides over the frame. The barrel locks and unlocks imperceptably.

I guess I like a great value. Those Rock Islands are really hard to beat for the money too. Norinco's can still be found at good prices to.

Cheap

I bought a new Rock Island Arsenal 1911 A1. Nice and tight and functions faullessly. The only thing I didn't like was the straight main spring housing which I changed to a an arched type. Now it fits fine in my hand. Just need to shoot it more. My best shooting .45 is the CZ9B which I bought used.

I've never had a problem W/ my RIA I payed 400.00$ for it.

Hell would freeze absolutely solid before I owned a Llama

Ain't never heard of a cheap .45. In fact, one of my problems with 1911s are that they're an old design going for premium $$$.

Many need work right out of the box. Most sell for more money than newer designed .45s. I've got a Smith 645 that's essentially a DA redesigned 1911, yet it's cheaper (and better in many ways) than a 1911. It's flawlessly reliable and can feed empty cases, plus it's at least as accurate as many 1911s.

So my answer would be, as long as it works, who can knock it?

Neither one is real pricey but I wouldn't call them cheap and they both work right well:)

Here are my 1911's, Norinco, RIA, 2x Colt 1991a1's, an old reblued commercial Colt 1919 vintage with a spare Sarco Roto barrel, original is trashed.

Maybe I should sell them and buy a Les Baer:)

Some of my other .45acp guns are more of the budget type also. S&W 457s, Ruger P97, Ruger P90, older kind of beat up and modified Colt and S&W 1917 revolvers.

I second that!

I think there's a fine line between "cheap" guns and "inexpensive" guns.

I don't mind inexpensive guns at all, but I certainly don't want any cheapos!

I bought a 4566 for $225 once. Maybe the best value handgun purchase I ever made. Kicking myself for selling it.

Right, or wrong, there is an expectation that quality is a function of price.

I was looking for a purse for my bride over the weekend. Saw a little denim bag in a showroom window...went in and asked the price. The dang thing was above 1200.00 USD. They were selling the name, not the product. I 'spect I could have made her a better one with the cut off leg of an outgrown pair of jeans.

Forum comments/complaints are just as plentiful with comments regarding 2-3,000 pistols that flat just do not work as they are with Norks and the Systema. Maybe the focus is on checkering, flat top slide, finish, etc. I guess the thought is that 'It'll look good in the safe'.

After my Series series 80 colt FUBAR, the only 45s that I have bought have been Norks, a Systema, or Colts Commanders/or pre 80 Combat Commanders.

salty.

Edited:

I forgot to add a Commander length STI Ranger 2.

Excellent slide, frame, and barrel fit...under cut at the trigger guard, duck tail grip safety, skeletonized low mass hammer, light trigger/main spring, one piece (ramped) barrel, and a convoluted recoil system complete with a full length guide rode.

JMB, help me understand, but I love it.

However, it wasn't reliable. Got it back from STI warranty a few weeks ago. We'll see.

What puzzles me, is, that if someone insists on re-inventing the wheel, why should it be oblong? Makes for a bumpy ride.

+1 to RIA and the other Armscor made 1911s. My oldes RIA is over 13000 rounds and still going strong.

My brother-in-law was down for a visit and is looking to buy but lives in NY where rental guns don't exist and the law tries to make you buy blind -- had to "buy" the gun and put it on his permit before he can pick it up from the dealer.

So I let him try a variety of my 1911s, it came down to my Kimber TLE II vs. the RIA Tactical (like the one shown in SAS Mayhem's photo but with double diamond Hogue rubber grips). After several cycles of one after the other shooting he decided he like the RIA better and was shocked when I told him it cost about half the Kimber's price.

Hey now, Llama's aren't all bad. I picked one up a while back off a co-worker. It's ugly, but shoots just fine. Not the most accurate 1911 I've shot, but it never has an issue and doesn't mind being tossed around. Don't get me wrong, I agree it's a piece of junk, but it shoots every time...
