I am a devil doc, paramedic, and soon to graduate nursing school. I shot sharp shooter on rifle, pistol, and squad automatic weapon, but I want to go to the Appleseed shoot

give it a go Ruger - try the 40 round 25 meter version if you want a challenge

The AQTs are not friendly and they could care less about your feelings!

Yep, give it a try, report back, I have yet to shoot these targets, though they deserve it.

doc2rn, we want to bring an Appleseed to Kansas.

There is a movement in Kansas to bring one to that state this summer/fall.

send me a PM and I will get you some details.

Goal is an Appleseed in all 50 states by the end of 2009, and US territories;)

Can we change the thread title to be less discriminatory to us Navy folk?
How 'bout "Are you a swabbie or a SeaBee?"

Down with ground-ponder discrimination against Sailors!!!!

1, 2 & 300 yard shots are much easier when, for all intents and purposes, external ballistics isn't in the equation.

When I first read the title, I thought it said are you a crook or a rifleman. I was wondering how firing 9 shots could determine my moral character.:D

50' was picked for the promo target because of the availability of 50' ranges there is even a 10M one and that sucker is tiny

the regular AQT is done at 25 meters (I think because this is how the army does reduced range quals)

If you're shooting across the course service rifle matches every weekend these might not be much challenge - but the point was for folks to leave them at the range - newer shooters might pick them up and ...

here's where I took a try at it with my Mossberg 44US

The US Army says I was an "Expert Rifleman". They were right. ;)

A minute of angle is a minute of angle, no matter the distance. The above target requires you to hold your groups inside of 4 MOA. If you can't hold 4 MOA at 50 feet, you can't hold it at 500 yards. Your shooting skills only improve by shooting. Traveling to a 500 yard range once every few months won't improve your shooting nearly as much as going to a local range once a week and putting a few hundred rounds on target, regardless of the length of the range.

Does shooting short range, small bore rifles eliminate the need for full range, full power shooting? No, it doesn't, and nobody is saying it does! Many of us don't have the opportunity to shoot at a 500 yard range often, and can't afford to put several hundred dollars worth of .308 downrange every weekend. If you do, GREAT! For the rest of us, this type of target is a wonderful idea.

Thanks for the target! It'll make a fine addition to the other reduced scale AQT's and Redcoat's I've been using.

See you at the firing line :)

Chris

My test for Appleseed

I tried the test as soon as I saw it. I had some fun and learned that I'm not quite the hot-shot that I thought that I was.

I logged a 14-14-13 (41) but 2 were just barely - or not quite - touching the line so I might have a 13-14-12 (39).

P.S. To those who think this is anything like really shooting at 300 yards, I say pooh to you. This test is fun and shows you where your weaknesses are in-so-much-as wobbling around and how to use a sling but wind and range as quite a larger challenge that pretending at 45-50ft.
