Mp-40

I saw an ad for "pistol" replicas recently that was basically just an MP40 with the stock permanently folded under for $4,000... Probably not a good truck gun.

I don't see why somebody can't make 40s, 44s, SVT-40s, etc. for cheap... It sure would be cool.

Most of the Subguns of that era were open bolt. ATF will not allow open bolt semi-autos now b/c they are "too easy" to convert to full-auto.

So they need to be redesigned to fire from a closed bolt. That costs money, so none of the replicas are inexpensive.

There is an MP-40 being offered for sale -- at a REALLY HIGH price.
The MP-40 originally was open bolt and had a very simple mechanism.
As Chipperman said, modern guns are closed bolt and with the MP-40's design, that would involve a lot of redesigning with the bolt since orginals were "slam-fire," while a closed bolt will require a firing pin and some way to release it with the bolt in battery.
It wasn't all that ergonomic of a gun; I should think a more rifle-like weapon, or carbine, would make a better truck gun. Plus, you'd save a lotta dough that way!

But for around $500 you could get a Yugo underfolder with a 30 round clip, that shoots a more powerful cartridge. Then who cares how many dings it gets behind the seat, and I will shoot just about every time.

I'm currently building an M56 (Yugo MP40 clone) semi from a kit. The kits, if you can find them, are not cheap. Mags are expensive, again, if you can find them. The reduced diameter blank tube for the receiver wasn't cheap, and having my internals converted...

If I don't want to do it as a pistol build, I'll have to pay for a tax stamp or put a goofy looking long barrel on it...

No matter how you slice it, even built from a kit it's going to be too expensive to rattle around in the trunk. I'll second the idea of getting an underfolder AK.

if i paid extra and had the folding stock, it could fit under a seat! and how many truck guns do YOU know that have a 32 round mag?

I prefer a shotgun for a truck gun but if you're set on 9mm why not get a GLOCK 17 or 19 and a couple 33 round mags? Then if you're still set on a carbine you can get a carbine conversion kit for it off gunbroker. They even kind of look like an MP-40.

If you are going to have something with a permanately underfolded stock, you might as well save money and get an AK pistol or a PLR-16.
Just throw in a pair of earplugs in case have to shoot someone in the toodles
