Last month, Columbus, OH WBNS (ch. 10) reporter Brittany Westbrook contacted Robin Salvo from Blackwing Shooting Center and myself about doing a "women and firearms" report.

I gathered together 6 ladies who were former CCW students of mine. I hand selected these ladies for specific reasons, because they each had a tale to tell or were unique. I wanted this to be as interesting as possible rather than boring. My ladies include:

-a kidnapping victim who lived through an 18 hr ordeal
-a 22 yr old lady who is currently being stalked by a 55 yr old WOMAN
-a single parent
-an ex-military lady who is married to a policeman
-the daughter of a famous cable TV hunter personality
-a mugging victim who was accosted by a homeless man in Columbus

Our segment was filmed about a month ago. Blackwings was filmed a couple weeks ago. BWSC's revolved around shotguns and Women on Target programs. Ours revolved around handguns and concealed carry. I had Brittany shooting a .22. Her first experience ever with handguns. Prior to the report, when asked her stance on guns, she told me "I am not pro gun, but I'm definitely not anti gun. I am neutral". She had a ton of fun with us.

Brittany did individual interviews with each of the ladies.

Once aired this week, I was very pleased with the outcome of the report. This was a very non-biased report, especially for TV10. Quite the refreshing breath of fresh air from the media.

Thats to cool. I like hearing possitive news reports. Way to go. I am glad women are refussing to be targets. I carry and have a ccw permit. I will do what it takes to protect myself and my son from harm. Thank you for posting this.

Great work,Linda! We need more positive reports like this.
I think I spotted my S&W 340PD on the clip.
Well done. And if I'm looking for R.E. in Ohio I know where to go.:)

Thanks for the link!

Shoot straight and watch your 'six' as the old saying goes.

Thanks Linda:

Those are some of the finest "public information' stories about firearms that do the most good.

Really encouraging to read about his story.

I've been involved myself (Teacher/student relationship) with a woman who was vicitmized, and now carries, and refuses to ever be victimized again.

I think that anchor should have talked less and let the women talk more. Decent clip but I think it still made gun owners out to be the a fringe group of people.

Great clip. Thanks for sharing this. Little by little we ARE gaining ground among people who just simply never thought of owning or shooting a gun before.

This sort of thing helps.

Great! I'm glad the reporter learned something, and hopefully the viewers learned something as well. Good for you guys (girls :)).

Thanks everyone for the very kind responses!!!:D

Were the outdoor and indoor ranges at the same facility?

NO! They actually filmed my segment a couple weeks prior to the indoor range segment.

That was a good segment. It deflates a lot of the antis' spin about gun owners just being a bunch of intolerant redneck men. The Pink Pistols are a compelling advocate of our side for the same reason.

Was that the whole segment as it aired? I thought they might discuss each woman's particular rationale a bit more.

Good work Linda! Great story. They touched on all the main topics. Gun safety, personal safety, and just plain fun.:)

Nice work, Linda.

Brave of you to do this with the news people. You go, girl!!

That was the whole segment as aired. They probably took 5 hours of film footage to make a 2:40 report. Yes, most of it fell to the film editing floor. A couple of the ladies from my group were totally cut out of the report. Plus most of my ladies had been crime victims and they did not delve deeply into any of them.

Brave of you to do this with the news people.

Ah shucks, with all of the media we do with Buckeye Firearms, this was just another day at the office.

This was really fun to do. It is important to get the message out there to the ladies, that yes, it is OK to think about your own self defense, and no, it is not evil of you to think your life is more important than the criminals.
