Becoming a reserve police officer?

In my limited experience, reserve officers are called out for duties like crowd control, traffic control and the like at busy times - big golf tournament, county fair, football games. Sorry, no car chases, no carrying guns, no crime scene investigation. Your weapon will be Mace and now maybe a Taser. In the unlikely event that there is some kind of mass attack, guns might be issued, but the reserve status does not allow carrying guns off duty. For that, a person is a lot better off with a CCW license if he can get one.

As to the view of other officers, IMHO a reserve police badge and $5 will get you coffee at Starbucks, but it won't get you much else.

Good lord you people really know how to take things out of context. What a bunch of *******s.

What part of your own words did anybody here take out of context? You said your hobbies are guns and driving fast. You said the department you want to work for sucks and that you - with no current training or experience - could do a better job. You mentioned you thought it would give you enormous credibility if you ever had to use your gun on someone. And you want to know if these officers (who's job performance "sucks" in your words) will treat you like a "real" cop.

Then you accuse us of taking things out of context - and call us "...a bunch of *******s."

Have I missed anything?

Here are some more of your own words "taken out of context" from another thread you started:

I am trying to get my CCP...I'm looking at the application for my county, and question #5 clearly asks "Do you use controlled substances such as marijuana...?"

Here's the thing. I do use controlled substances such as marijuana, because I have an Oregon state medical permit to grow and smoke marijuana...

I have no problem with anybody using medical mj - or even responsible recreational use for that matter. But if you're having a problem getting a CCP because of it - just imagine the fun they'd have with you if you applied for a position as a reserve police officer!

I am offering to give hundreds of hours of my free time here to help the local police department at absolutely no cost.

Sometimes "free" and "no cost" isn't worth the price.

I thougth reserve police officers were for when they had to go out and get ALOT of donuts and needed helping hauling them back to the station???

I was going to insert a crack here about how they get the holes in the donuts....but no cop could make that shot inside 50 rounds. :D

It may be different elsewhere but here, reserve officers swap driving duties with their partners and wear full uniforms including guns. They work under the instructions of their assigned (full time) partner when on patrol.
Other local reserve oficera are more specialized. A local attorney is a SWAT officer -specifically, a sniper.
On the whole, there is very little excitement and a lot of boredom.

You have got to be kidding me!

Thanks to those that actually tried to help...
What we do for our community is not the subject here you came up with this thread on your own. If you were jokeing about there is absolutly no indication of it. Then this comes forth
