Good evening fellow THR members,
I’m looking to start weekly training sessions and have run plumb out of training partners in this area.

I’m not real comfortable tooting my horn, but I realized long ago if you offer something for free, people aren’t interested and/or waste your time because other stuff always has priority. It is a question of perceived value.

The system I train primarily is called Target Focus Training, though my training background is a lot broader than that. www.targetfocustraining.com Please check it out (and note what they charge for live training). I have been to multiple live training events and have plenty of their products as well. I am not an instructor (for them ;) ), but am in the long process of becoming one eventually.

I have 13+ years experience training hand to hand systems including single and multiple opponents, firearms disarmament, weapons usage.
A brief summary of my relevant operational experience: Iraq 2005, 5 months as a security contractor, 4+ months as PSD team leader. Afghanistan 2006-2007, Embedded Training Team member, US Army.
Education/Certs: RL Oatman Executive Protection Course, NRA LE Handgun/Shotgun Instructor, Jim Wagner “Reality Based Personal Protection” Level I Certified Instructor.

I sincerely hope there is enough interest to get something started, I would like to get 1-3 really motivated folks who want to train once, or perhaps 2 X per week and are consistent. The max number would be maybe 6 or so because I don’t have the time to act as a formal instructor to a class (and wouldn’t get much training myself that way). The biggest obstacle is a) finding a few motivated people who really want to learn how to protect themselves and b) where to train. My house has no space for this, so I’m hoping an interested member can help with a solution, perhaps we can rent space at an un-used time from a Martial Arts studio.

The best days for me are Monday eve or Wed eve. 1-1.5 hours on either day. I won’t charge anything at all but we may need to chip in for mats and/or a place to train. I live in and would prefer somewhere on the West side of the PDX metro area.

Please respond in this thread and/or PM me if interested.

A little clarification: I am looking for training partners to help me in my training so I can keep learning/practicing/progressing (please click on the www.targetfocustraining.com link). The by product is of course you will learn as well.

This is the sort of knowledge that after you have it you won't ever see the "knife vs. gun" or "what do you do if they have a gun" threads the same way again. Here is the only secret answer to any and all "what if" questions in violence. INJURE THEM NOW!!!

All that's left is to learn and practice the most effective ways to injure someone (anatomy and physics). If you're interested in learning/practicing TFT with me please let me know. I've already got 2 interested and we're working on getting something together. I live in Cornelius BTW.

I sincerely wish you were operating in my corner of the country;I 'd love to knock th erust off of my CQB skills as well. You can train the body by yourself (up to a point) ;butaggressive social work requires at least one other.Regards!

Yeah, what you can do by yourself is pretty limited. Thanks for the reply, unfortunately this sort of info/training isn't available at the dojo down the street. That would make things sooo much simpler!

If I am ever in the PDX area, I will look you up.
You are doing a great thing!!

To dilute a battle rifle is to dilute it's purpose, and diluting man's tools invariably dilutes the man.

Update: I have found a top notch location for the group to train for a small monthly fee split between the group. Training is Mon and Wed eve 7:30-8:30 in Hillsboro. There is room for a few more, please PM me or respond if interested. You could attend both or either night.

I was one of the first to join Strambo's group.

After three sessions I am impressed. I literally came from nothing to at least feeling I would stand some chance in a hand-to-hand fight against a mean opponent.

The sessions are fun and informal - I recommend them to anybody.

hello my name is Rob, I am interested in participating. I might have a good place to train, most likely for free. if you can somehow contact me, [email protected] we can arrange something.

May I sign up, please PM me ASAP . I live in Hillsboro. I like your schedule and may be able to fit it into mine. It competes with my wife's volleyball schedule so please PM with location and details of overhead contribution. I'd be happy to participate and contribute.

Is this something for experienced CQB people only? It's hard to find out where/what discipline to start in when learning how to defend yourself unarmed.

No, this isn't just for experienced people. I just want bodies to train with. It would be a great place to start and when I deploy in the spring you will have the knowledge to evaluate other systems if you want to continue. Or...maybe the group would keep going in my absence...I'll PM both of you with details.

Training Group

Have you nailed down a location and hours yet? If it works I'd like to attend, I have a brother in Hillsboro who may be interseted as well. Both of us are newbies but eager to train and learn. Please contact me.

Replies Needed!

To all interested. Please email or PM me ASAP if you can make training this WED 11/12 at 7:30 pm in Hillsboro. I need to get at least 1-2 more confirmed or this group may die off as I cannot afford the location costs with just one other person.

Training at any MA studio or Krav Maga etc would easily run triple or quadruple the price of our location costs per person and not even be comparable information for self defense.

Feel free to ask any questions you need answered to pull the trigger by Wed, the commitment is only for 1 month at $25-$40 max. If you don't like it or it won't work out nothing major is risked, no deposit/contract or uniform to buy!

If we do keep this group going, the "other guy" has a private range and I'm planning an airsoft force on force training module...if you need some incentive! Later,

-Brian
