A good friend I work with is in need of come quick cash and asked me if I would be interested in a Colt Revolver he has. I've had a hard time finding info about this one on the internet, so I would love as much advice as possible. He says it is a Colt Trooper .357.

It says "Trooper .357" on the barrel, and under that it says ".357 Magnum CTG."

Also, the serial number is 785XX, which I think means it was made in 1968 or 1969 from one site I found, but I would definitely like to know if anyone knows about this for sure.

It has a 6" barrel and black colt grips. He told me he's had it for 15 years and that he bought it from a cop who seemed to have taken good care of it. I haven't seen it yet in person (I will see it tomorrow morning in person), but he says it's in superb condition with only slight wear in the bluing up near the muzzle.

Here is a low quality picture he sent me using his cell-phone, but it's the best I have at the moment for you guys to see what it is:

He is asking $200, which seems like a steal for a Colt in excellent condition. Any advice here would be great. Also, what should a Colt like this be worth for cash or trade-in value?

I am not planning on selling it; I have actually been in the market for a .357 revolver, so this is great news! But I would just like to know any info concerning it.

Even with the wrong stocks it looks to be worth $200 to me. I bought a similar gun in 4" for $210 at a show last year that had the correct wood (these Colt stocks are very pricey to buy used) but was in worse shape on finish for $210 and was happy with it.

Same action as Python.

Yes buy it and don't look back as you will not regret it. At that price you can always get your money back.

:what:

Be it in as good condition as claimed, the firearm gods will punish you most severely for not purchasing it.

Don't believe in the firearm gods? Ask the guy with nine fingers.

The original Trooper is the same basic gun as a Colt Python, only without the heavy lugged barrel, tuned action, and polished finish.
It's often known as a "Poor mans Python".

These are very high quality guns, well known for accuracy.
That price for one in good condition is a real steal.

if he's really a good friend, and he really needs cash, give him $250 for it and still call it an absolute steal.

$200 for a colt .357???

Thats a good price if the thing doesn't fire...

And if it does - thats a steal!

Buy it or tell your freind I will =P

If it's a Trooper and not a Trooper Mark, then it's a steal! Poor man's Python for certain! Even if it's a Mark model, $200 is good.

I've got the .38spl. version of that and the action is sweet.

I paid a bit over $400 for this like new 4" Old model Trooper and it was worth it to me.
