Florida and Arizona shooting ranges

I currently live in California, but am considering a move to either Florida or Arizona. In the Southern California area, I am surrounded by many good indoor pistol ranges that rent a wide variety of guns, and also many good outdoor ranges for pistol, rifle and shotgun with distances to 600yds.

On my last trip to Florida (Tampa Bay and north) I did not find many places to shoot and the one i did find had very limited hours and only distances to 200yds. The same held true for Arizona also, and the only outdoor ranges there seemed to have consistently high winds.

Can you guys who live in those areas help me locate decent shooting ranges or areas? Thanks.

Yuma has an indoor range, I dont know much about it, I refuse to pay for a place to shoot!

Also in Yuma, Adair Shooting Park with ranges for Black Powder, metallic silhouette of all disciplines, high power rifle range out to 1000 yards, IPSC, Cowboy Action, smallbore, etc. Open to the public with no charge. Yes, the wind blows at times!

Manatee Gun and Archery Club, located on the south side of Tampa Bay, has a 1,000 yard rifle range open to the public four days per week. To the best of my knowledge, no one has yet brought out a firearm that was "too big" for the range, including 14.5mm and 20mm.

Arizona has so much public land that's open to shooting, I don't know too many people that depend on organized ranges.

That doesn't mean they're not there though. Ben Avery is supposed to be a very nice facility run the Arizona Game & Fish Dept. The Scottsdale Gun Club is an excellent indoor range, and they even rent machineguns. Up in my area of AZ we've got the High Noon Indoor Shooting Parlour in Prescott Valley, and the Prescott Sportsmen's Club in the national forest west of Prescott.

There are tons more around the state. You might want to look at the NRA range registry, they list 51 ranges in AZ and 132 in FL.

Ben Avery is indeed top notch. It's very safely run and yet not overly restrictive. For example, there are no restrictions on rapid fire, fully automatic is allowed, firing from any position is allowed, etc.

Wayne, did the RO make you fire FA while seated? This happened to me when I went there. I really like Ben Avery and I find it is very safe. I am just asking.

Ben Avery is the worlds largest public shooting range. they have a range for EVERYTHING (including a 1,000 yard range). or if you want to do something alittle less formal, there are numerous makeshift ranges scattered all over the desert. Ben Avery only allows paper targets for the majority of their ranges. in the desert, shoot whatever targets you want. just make sure to leave the place cleaner than you left it.

I've been in central Florida for 20 years ... not real happy w/ the ranges or availability of public land .... plus AZ has open carry ...FL is OK otherwise but I would not move here again.

Even here in the small towns we have ranges in AZ, some free! Go to the local gunshops and ask Mom and Pop where the ranges are.

The Melbourne Florida area has a private club with a 600 yard range. And a county range that goes up to 200 yards. The county range is probably the best and safest range I've ever shot at. And it also has the best personnel I've ever dealt with. They're not only polite. They actually know what they are talking about, plus one of them is a good gun smith. Which can be pretty handy at times.
Of course Melbourne is a bit of a ways from Tampa, but our traffic isn't as bad on this coast either.
