I just got my CC Permit and need a decent holster. I currently have 2 uncle mike's, a paddle and a shoulder. I don't really like shoulder carry due to the weight, and I'm not in love with wearing a jacket when it's hot.

I would like the paddle, but for trying to conceal anything I feel like it sticks WAY out. And the muzzle rides kind of low, close to the bottom of some of my shirt tails.

I don't want to spend too awfully much (prefer $40 or less) b/c I'm saving up for a smaller 9 (I'm currently running on the the Glock 26 vs M&P Compact vs XS9SC gerbil wheel, but that's already been beat to death in lots of other threads).

Come up with a suggestion that fits both the model 39 (4" barrel) and my future gun (3" barrel), and I might spend a bit more. Otherwise this holster is somewhat of a temporary solution.

I don't think I want retention devices on this particular holster.

Between leather vs. kydex vs. nylon, I don't think I want kydex b/c the model 39's finish is still in really good shape and I would like to keep it that way. Leather or is fine.

I am between IWB and OWB, I'm interested to try both at some point, so suggestions of either would be great. For IWB I think I would prefer something that actually clips under my belt, as if I ever have to draw the gun in a hurry the thought of the holster coming with it seems not-so-great.

From what I've gathered so far, Uncle Mike's 15 or 16 would fit the bill for IWB, I'm just not sure about the clip part.

Don hume seems like a good values, but website doesn't show anything that will fit a model 39 (ah the joys of a 50 year old gun)

Other suggestions?

Fortunately, lots of S&W 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation pistols have similar, if not precisely the same frame sizes and trigger guard geometries.

Check out the label from a Galco RH holster that I no longer use:

Add on the 3913, the 3914, and the 3953, among others, to the list of holsters on that bag. Practically speaking, if it fits one, and the trigger guard is the right shape, it fits all of them.

And yes, the holster is sitting idle and was worn about three times.

i like that one, but it's a little pricey for what I'm looking for.

Especially for something I'll only wear "about 3 times" :neener:

That does make sense about the trigger guards matching though, I guess the main difference in all those was grip circumference (single stack vs double stack mags), which doesn't really affect the holster.

Being a 39, it will have a round trigger guard anyway, so it should fit any of the holsters. If you really care about the finish, Galco and Bianchi offer lined holsters, but they cost more.

If you are wanting a retail holster, it is hard to beat Don Hume, just buy one for the 439/3906 series. Sportsmans Guide also sells some okay leather holsters for the price.

i carry exactly that , i like the leather IWB i got from galco best , it was reasonable and is super high quality , my pistol was in mint condition and still shows no holster wear , this fits like a kid glove

this galco iwb?

A square 10, is this the Galco IWB you were saying that you liked?

If so, I may pick it up.

The material seemed a bit thin/floppy. The thinness is probably better for the concealment aspect, I just want to make sure it is stiff enough to keep the holster material out of the trigger guard :what:

I've been looking mostly at it and at the Don humes.

I like that clip a lot better than the huge one in the picture I posted that looks like it's made to go over the outside of the belt.

Does your holster have any kind of markings on it so I can find it online? (Such as WB244)?

At Galco's website the one I posted was the only IWB, so I'm trying to find one without the huge over-the-belt clip.

snorky,

The holster that A square shows is the Scout Clip On holster, which is no longer made for the S&W autos. You can see the markings in his second pic "SCT244", and 244 is the correct code for the S&W autos. Galco has dropped a lot of models for the older S&W's lately, probably due to slow sales. Like you said, the joys of using a 50 year old gun!

The Scout is a much nicer holster than the soft thin POS that they currently offer, but I don't trust clips anyway and prefer an actual belt loop. I never use a holster with a thumb break or strap across the top, and now I only use custom made leather. I have Milt Sparks and UBG holsters for my 39.

But since a custom holster won't work with your budget or time frame, I suggest a Bianchi 100 Professional. It's very similar to the Galco Scout and you should be able to find it easily. You would need a size 12. Good luck.

If you've got a larger gun store by you with a holster box I'd check it out. I've seen old cop holsters in a box for $5-10.

If not I've used th $20 Galso IWB with a Glock 22. Not great but it did the job. It will be a 2 hand re-holster.
