The one you grab

i grab my rem 700 30-06 because it is the one i am most familiar with and it gives me more confidence in the woods i hunt. i am very fond of my newer 243 but just havent had enough trigger time for it to compete with my confidence in the 06

i have rifles chambered in more powerful rounds but its light accurate for what i need and is the easiest thing i have to carry for an extended period

I can pick from a
Rem 700 BDL 7mm rem mag
Win 70 30-06
Rem 7600 30-06
Marlin 336 30-30
and some others but I wouldn't pick them.

The 700 is my deer gun and that is what a grab. It has the best optics on it and I like it the most. I will however take the 336 if I am hunting in a woods.

My Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. It's never let me down in the 20 years I've owned it.

I've owned a few others (.308, 30-06, 30-30) but this is the ONE.

I don't hunt so all I worry about is two-legged game. At the house I would grab my 12ga SXS.

I have the following choices for hunting:
Ruger M77R .338 Win Mag with Weaver Grand Slam 4.5x14
Remington M700 Varmint .223 Leupold Vari X III 8.5x25
Remington Model 7 .243 Win Weaver 2.5 x10
Remington M700 AWR .338 Win Mag Leupold Vari X III 2.5x8

My main one since the the early 1980's has been the Ruger .338 It will probably soon be replaced by the Remington AWR in .338 as it has a synthetic stock and is a really lightweight easy to carry rifle.

Small game is the modified Ruger 10/22 for now. I hope to replace it with a Cooper Jackson Hunter in 22lr for small game sometime this year or early next year.

The Ruger has taken many big game animals including moose when I was living in Alaska. Everyseason it has accounted for all my big game except for one year where I also shot a couple of whitetail does with the .243 Win.

Hopefully I'll make it back up to Alaska for another moose while I'm still young enough.

mosin m38, specially treated with sweetshooters, eezox, then molyfusion inside and out. then 205 or 185 grainers, will send all things end over end.

I have many guns to choose from but my go to gun is my first rifle i ever received a ruger m77 MK II in 30-06 It is a tac driver and a simple good hunting rifle in a great cailber. My second choice is my Winchester model 100 in 243. its got a old redfield 3-12 power scope on it and it shoulders great its a nice little semi automatic carbine thats a great gun.

vZ-58 is first choice, but definately not a hunting rifle! Closest to that ideal I have is this...

for grab and go is my norinco SKS thats my EBR, or for big stuff at long range, my M44 nagant. 4inch groups at 150 yards. good enough for me for what it was made for.

My Rem 700 BDL 300Win Mag followed me all over the Colorado mountains for years (with Leupold VariXIII glass) and never failed me in any form or manner....BUT, the new kid on the block (relatively), a Sako 75 SS with Nikon Monarch Titanium scope, has earned the first notch on the rifle side of the safe. A 1956 Winchester Model 94 30-30 patiently waits its turn for the right hunt, remaining trim and light with no glass. A Rem 7400 with Tasco glass sits way back in the corner, unused for years but representing what I could afford years back as my first brand-new, bought with my own money deer rifle. Of course, there's a couple fellas on the shotgun side that are more than willing to do double duty if asked...then there's at least three handuns that fight for holster duty during deer season as well. AHHHHH, if I could but keep 'em all happy!!! The other stuff gathers dust during " THE season", waiting for "plinking" season to return.

Since all I hunt anymore are small furry critters I tend to grab my CZ 527 in .223. If I had to put meat on the table My HK91 (.308) is more than capable of doing the job. Be it a semi auto, or a bolt action the .308 is one of the more effective rounds out there and can take a wide variety of North American game. JMHO

Habitually? PTR-91.

I can't think of very many shooting situations that weapon won't handle decently (hunting included, of course!), so I just... grab it.

For big game & 500 yards +: .30-40 Krag

For small game: Yugo SKS
Westernfeild .22 bolt with a 3-6X15 Westernfeild scope

Well: animal and distance will dictate. If you're talking deer-sized game where I live, that's easy: 12 gauge slug gun--not allowed in this state to use anything besides shotguns for deer.

'Course, some consider deer "medium game." For those, the big game rifle is obvious: .375 H&H.

Thank you, Officer'sWife, I got that old warhorse for $50 from a co-worker who had no idea what he had. A shipmate pawned it to him 15 years prior for beer money, and it followed him through the Coast Guard for the rest of his time, never fired, original ammo still with it, (Still have it, 18 rounds of 1953 surplus junk), until he thought he's unloaded it on a sucker...me!
Man, can that baby SHOOT! Started casting bullets for it, too, but it loves Hornady 175 FMJ/BT very much.
