rainer bullets

How well does the copper platting on Rainier bullets hold up? I was thinking about using some of there 300g .500cal plated HP bullets for reloading .50AE. Can they handle the 1400fps and 35,000psi sammi chamber pressures? I have heard of Berrys bullets platting stripping off over 1200fps. I really don't want to clog up my gas port as it is inaccessible for cleaning.The rifling is octagonal like a glock.

The octagonal barrels are smooth as a mirror but supposedly form a tighter gas seal. 1400fps is about the max factory load. I would only load them to about 1200-1300fps for plinking and could slow them down a bit with the 335 or 400gr slugs. Supposedly the 350gr factory load has less recoil than the 300 and 325. My gun is pretty easy on the brass. You could do 1500fps with a 300gr jacketed easy.

Well actually they have both. All of the .45s ,Auto and GAP, have Octagonal were as the all others have Hexagonal.
