So I have been looking at AR style rifles. It would be used for coyotes, other small game and would just be nice to have in the house. I have looked at all sorts of different things and it seems to confuse me pretty thoroughly. I looked at the Smith and Wesson M&P, that thing is pretty sweet, but also around 1500$. My brother in law just got a DPMS and seems to love it. I see that the Panther Arms can come in around 600$ which is not bad at all. Is this worth the money? Is it a quality firearm? Should I not go inexpensive and just get something more costly. Please don't just say get the H&K or things like that, please tell me why, I want to make an educated purchase. I would like to shoot the DMPS that Nathan has but unfortunately he lives in MN, and I am in MI.

what should I expect to pay for one of these? I know because of all of the gun-grabbing some prices have gone up. Realistically what should I expect?
Unless you see one on the shelf - expect a long wait. I've read that DPMS is backordered in the thousands.
umm.. not all waits are that long.. call around to about every sporting goods store within 2 hrs of ya. pretty shure youll find something.
not shure what model yer after, but the DPMS Sportical is working wonderfull for me! and definetly worth it!

+1 on the DPMS Sportical. I bought one and loved it so I bought another and left it in the box untouched. It sure is purdy!!

DPMS are great rifles, great quality, good finish, decent priced, and come with alot more than what some inaccurate chart that only pertains to M-4 models gives them credit for. On top of all this they are very very accurate.
By the way, I know of colts that dont have some of the features they are given credit for in that chart, after all it only pertains to M-4 models.

+1 on buy it if you see it. I tried to pick up a Mark 12 about 2 months ago and was told the wait was at least 6 months....
good luck getting the h&k no wait you can't! no one can for that matter, you know how they are "we have it and you don't nay nay nee boo boo. anyway, for your intended purposes i would say that you will probally be good with a dpms, there are many happy owners, personally they don't meet my criteria, and they are not the brand of ar that i want for the job/ purpose that i have for an ar. my first choice is bushmaster, unless of course money was not an issue and then i would have a SLR-15 the grail as a matter of fact.

DPMS is certainly worth it! I currently own two Sporticals and also two Panther Lites and they are of great quality! Don't hesitate to buy one if you see a decent price. As you know, prices are through the roof and there is not a shop within an hour of me that has a decent priced AR-15. I'll sell one to ya...if the price is right! ha.

it's more accurate than i am, so great way to tell when i'm having a good day or not. with so many options, the idea of getting a different upper assembly (ie: a 16" flattop with 2-3x holo-optics like others shown) and reuse the lower is cool.
very solid aluminum, no wiggle. every one of my friends who shoots it, wants it. def. a keeper.

I built an ar using a dpms lower, and I am not knocking them.
I would try to find a stag first if I could. The dpms would serve you well though.

My smith just sold one to me for $950 drive out, M-4 clone, NIB that included all the discounts he could swing, LEO etc. Reported that DMPS is 73,000 rifles back ordered, and the list getting longer.
