It is actually a perfectly silent pistol. No suppressor required.

http://world.guns.ru/ammo/a_sp-3-1.jpg This is what it fires. You can see how it works, how the piston violently jumps forward in the case and strikes the actual bullet itself. The Russians thought waaaay outside the box. Admit it, this is a pretty cool design.

NFA? If so, what category? Suppressor? And what would be registered as the suppressor, the ammunition? 200 dollars per cartridge? It's not a suppressor, would it have to be registered? Would it be an AOW?

someone import them now plz

thanks

at worst it would be a AOW or maybe a NFA weapon. would most likely depend on rifling in the barrel to meet "pistol barrel" requirements and not be a shot barrel shotgun.

The gun is legal as a pistol, however each cartridge is a silencer requiring a $200 tax stamp.

And because it is made in Russia not the US you cannot import (and probably never export from there). No NFA imports. If memory serves me the owner of that site is a member here and has knowledge of the local weapons.

18 U.S.C. sec. 921(a)(24) "The term 'firearm silencer' or
'firearm muffler' means any device for silencing, muffling, or
diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any
combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for
use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm
muffler, and any part intended only for use in such assembly or
fabrication."

I don't think it counts as a silencer but the case could be made either way.

That would be my take on it too, that the ammo itself is the NFA item since it acts as a suppressor.

I'd think ammo would be a "device".

According to the law, it says a silencer is anything that "silences, muffles, or diminishes the report" of a firearm. The cartridge is NOT diminishing the report, it is in fact generating a very quiet report. So no, I don't think it'd be considered a silencer.

Logic would agree with that, but this is ATF we're talking about here :)

Remember "a shoestring is a machinegun"?
