I'm looking for an inexpensive 45 ACP practice round.

Some stipulations are:
No Blazer.
Must be brass casing, FMJ, 230 Grain - no fancy specialty ammo or something that might damage my gun or not be allowed on the range.
Yes, I know I should be reloading...I will eventually and I'll start picking up the brass from what I'm going to order.
I'd like to order a minimum of 500 rounds.

Some bonus info would be any personal experience using your recommended 45 ammo in a Sig P220.

I've been looking on AmmunitionToGo.com (where I usually get my ammo) and I have been eying Aguila or Sellier & Bellot.

I've pretty much been a WWB, Remington, or Federal fan for all my practice ammo purchases, but want to see if maybe there is something cheaper that is just as good for practice.

So, what is a good practice round that meets these criteria? Thanks

You seem to be using what I've used. The only thing cheaper is Wolf, which is russian made and perhaps slightly more dirty. Trying to find .45 acp on-line has been a challenge. All I find in stock is the really cheap stuff most won't use. The rest is out of stock. I'm looking locally for fmj 230 like WWB or Remington UMC, which even Walmart doesn't have at the moment. I found WWB jhp at Dick's Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shops but don't want to practice with that. Bass Pro also had Remington UMC metal case 250 packs for about $95.

It comes in .45, too. I've shot quite a bit and never had any trouble with it.

I've always used Winchester whitebox ammo it was $33.36 for a box of 100 rounds 230gr .45 auto @ walmart

No problems with em

i usually recommend Blaser Brass, it's what we use for classes, too because it's accurate and usually cheaper and cleaner than Winchester WB...but i do understand your desire to start collecting brass to reload.

I've had good luck with Fiocchi ammo. Dan's Ammo at www.dansammo.com is selling 500rds, FMJ for $159.99 or 1000rds for $299.99. By the time you pay for shipping, it's about the same as WWB... but if you would prefer Fiocchi over WWB...

Dick's carry UMC also, but it may sell out fast.

I used to like it for the same reasons, but my last batch I bought had really bad crimping. A round or 2 set back while trying to chamber a round.

Dillon 550B makes the best practice ammo...oops......sorry. Um...Cabelas sells bulk .45ACP from Ultramax. It's reloaded ammo, but works great for practice. Seriously, you might consider reloading as alternative.

I also use Blazer Brass. Used to use Georgia Arms' "Canned Heat" bulk remanufactured ammo, but it's to the point now that Blazer from Wally World is just as cheap.

I got WWB at a Walmart this morning for $29.99. They had been out of it for quite awhile, but were restocked now.

Cheapest stuff I've gotten lately was a bunch of Federal's Independence branded stuff - $20.99/50rnds. It was only $2-$3 less then the Remington or WWB on the same shelf, but hey, for punching holes in paper I think it will be fine (I shoot Federal's Amer. Eagle in .38spl a lot).

$29.99 + tax for 100rd WWB value pack is about double the price I'm willing to pay for it.

Some of the newer shooters may not, but I still remember paying $11 for it a few years ago.

Sometime you can find Ultramax reloads for $39 for 150 at Dicks. I shoot them often and have never had a problem.

my gun apparently isnt real fussy. i have shot fiocchi, winchester, amerc, magtech, blazer brass,(and aluminum), hornady, and a couple of others i just cant think of at the moment. i have not had any problems with it shooting any factory ammo after the first 100 rounds. that was so long ago, i can hardly remember (of course, i dont have much of a memory. what was i typing about?) lol. anyway, supposedly, the amerc is the bottom of the line for reloading brass, so i wouldnt buy much of that. (i only bought and shot one box). but other than that. as long as i keep the pistol reasonably clean and lightly lubed, she shoots great. i have had a few troubles with my lead bullet reloads, but that is certainly not the pistols fault.

The old Taurus 1911 that I have isn't picky either. It likes to eat the Wolf, but burps some black smoke out of her muzzle from time to time. I've had really good luck with Sellier and Bellot. I usually shot it when Wolf is out of stock and it's maybe 50 cents a box higher than Wolf. I think it's a lot more accurate and cleaner than the Wolf too. I've shot the Blazer too and it's decent too.

When I use practice ammo though I'm not as concerned with ammo accuracy. I know what kind of groupings I'm capable of with good ammo so I don't try to compare it to practice ammo. When practicing, I mainly work on the little things and unfortunately you've got to shoot a live round to cyle to slide on it's own. Snap caps are good, but I like to practice for real. So when I practice I don't really care about what kind of ammo I'm shooting, as long as it's cheap.

I got WWB yesterday at a Wally world for $29.99. I don't buy ammo there often, but my local shop is closed on Sunday. I went by the shop this morning and they had the same WWB 100 round box for $38.99! I hate to take business away from the shop, but $9 difference is range fees and a Coke.

I'm a big fan of the S&B. I would argue it's at least as good as UMC/WWB, and definitely cheaper. Correct me if I'm wrong (and you guys will) but my understanding is that S&B has a fairly high quality brass, as well.

I recently bought 500 rnds of Aguila, but haven't shot any of it yet. It looks good, FWIW (which isn't much).

seems best deal around $40.00 per 100--2000=$800.00 plus any shipping or your time & gas to get them.

Dillon Square Deal-B [350]+ scale [50]+calipers[20]+tumbler[80] and 1000 range brass[50] is about 550. add 2k 200gr LSW [150 delivered]and 2k LPprimers [60]and powder[25] is about 235. total is 785.

your loading equipment has paid for itself with the 2000 rounds you did not buy at market price. this rather assumes you have the time to load. figure 4 hours per 1000 including your preperation & clean up time.

if your gonna do it 'sometime later' --sooner is better.
