Idiot tests bulletproof vest

I always cringe every time this one comes up because I'm afraid someone just as stupid as these guys probably thinks "Well, SURE! All you gotta do is ... and no one woulda got hurt."

You just can't fix stupid.

DARWIN CANDIDATE

Man what a group of idiots, these are the kind of idiots that would play Russian Roulette with the same gun. Question is would they stop playing after the first winner. :banghead:

I remember 20 or so years ago some news reporter demostrating how a vest works - shot himself with a .22 revolver and spent a couple of minutes cursing up a storm before his cameraman drove him to a hospital.

"What's a Darwin Award winner's last words?"
"Hey, everybody, watch this!"

Dude has a death wish.
After being shot he walks around a bit, poses for the camera, and takes another drag on his lung destroyer.

Y'all do know that the guy who ran Second Chance body armor (think it was them) did that demonstration on a fairly regular basis?
Not that smart a thing to do, maybe, but it was a great way to sell a product.

Being a body armor developer and shooting yourself in a vest is a bit different than being out on the farm and strapping a 'bulletproof' vest on and handing your buddy a pistol.

Do you suppose the guy who RAN Second Chance perhaps knew a little more than this hillbilly about what protection was provided by different ballistic levels?

My theory? They were using loads too hot (9mm +p+?) for a rating too low (IIA).

Great theory, huh?

Might be. :D
That poses the question: Is it always stupid to do that, or only stupid when it doesn't work?

Stupid is definitely stupid. However, the hillbilly ended up with some medical bills. The owner of Second Chance ended up with several million in sales.

It's stupid when you are ignorrant about the subject. I'm sure the Second Chance owner has done many more tests with ballistics gelletin (instead of his body), than this fool has.

I don't get it. How did he not die right there? Did it only break the skin, or did it hit his lungs like it looks like. I assume that's why he was coughing.

Just luck that he lived or did I miss something?
