I have this colt that was passed down to me and don't understand what it is. The slide says series 80 officers acp. Ok I get that much. I searched som pics and everything I found looks totally different. To me it seems that the frame uses standard grips. My hand has plenty of room and I have big hands. Is this normal or am I just an idiot? thero of the grip is stippled and it has colt custom grips as well as the frame being aluminum please help.

yes it is it says colt hartford conn. I just checked and it has the same grip length as my para p14 nite tac:confused::confused:

possibly a parts gun

Exactly. There are more non-standard parts visible than came on an 80, so it's immediately a question whether it's an "organic" gun fit together or snapped together. Also, the lines on the frame forward on the dust hood and around the trigger - the transitions from the flats to the reliefs and rounded surfaces - aren't linear and smooth. Factory guns are never that way, or even finished bare receivers from parts vendors. It does look like it was a full length receiver to start and still is.

This does not mean it's not a great little gun; just not a factory job, or from a highly-skilled builder.

What is the S/N, and is it an 80 frame? Take the slide off, and see if it has the firing pin safety parts in the receiver, or if it's a 70 frame/80 receiver.

clw046*** was a Colt Commander light weight, made in 1981.

You have a put-together parts gun. A Commander aluminum frame fitted with an Officer's ACP slide.

Curious if you have shot it yet to see if it shoots/handles well.

I have a Colt built with the Commander frame and Officer's upper, by Colt. It's actually quite accurate and balanced well.

They are kind of addictive though. If the one you inherited grabs ya, you'll probably end up with another.

This is some sort of custom build. The grip looks too long for an Officer's ACP. It looks like an Officer slide on a Commander frame, with an extended ported barrel added, as well as other parts, e.g., the trigger.

Looks like someone had some fun building that one. Were it me I would get rid of the muzzle brake and shoot it like...it might be fun
